The Appraisal Foundation Seeks New Board of Trustees Members for 2025

The Appraisal Foundation Calls for New Board Members

On January 17, 2025, the Appraisal Foundation made a public appeal for candidates to join its Board of Trustees. This initiative aims to fill three to four critical public interest positions, emphasizing the importance of quality candidates who can guide the Foundation's work in the valuation profession.

The available terms include one three-year position and several four-year positions, all commencing on January 1, 2026. Kelly Davids, the President of the Foundation, highlighted the pivotal moment for the organization, describing 2025 as an opportunity for significant impact and transformation in the appraisal industry.

“The response we have received over the years has been gratifying, with a strong pool of applicants who demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the profession. There’s a pressing need for continuous infusion of talent to support our mission, and I commend all who have shown interest in advancing our work,” Davids stated.

Applications are encouraged from anyone with a vested interest in valuation, as the Trustee Nominating Committee aims for a diverse representation of stakeholder groups. The committee has specifically called for candidates from various backgrounds, including:

  • - Commercial Real Property
  • - Agricultural Real Property
  • - Mass Appraisal
  • - Eminent Domain
  • - Personal Property
  • - International Valuer
  • - Real Estate Brokers/Agents
  • - Consumer Advocates
  • - Civil Rights Advocates
  • - Representatives from Banking, Lending, and Finance
  • - Academics
  • - Other interested parties in valuation

The Board of Trustees plays a vital role, offering oversight and financial support to the Foundation's two independent boards: the Appraiser Qualifications Board and the Appraisal Standards Board. Meetings for the Board occur biannually. Although Trustees receive reimbursement for travel costs, their time is voluntary.

Additionally, the composition of the Board reflects a range of expertise, with members from various appraisal disciplines, appraisal service users, former regulators, scholars, business leaders, and community advocates. This diversity is seen as crucial to the quality of the Board's governance. During the candidate evaluation process, emphasis will be placed on selecting candidates who enhance the Board’s diversity.

Candidates interested in joining the Board must submit their applications by March 1, 2025. For more inquiries regarding the application process, individuals may reach out to Arika James, the Program Manager for Boards and Councils, at 202.624.3072 or via email at [email protected].
