Developing Self-Regulation Skills in Education
In a bid to empower educators, CodeTakt Co., Ltd. is hosting two online events designed to delve into the concept of self-regulated learning. Scheduled for August 24 and August 27, these events will feature experts in the field, offering valuable insights aimed at enhancing students' self-regulation skills.
Understanding Self-Regulation Learning
One of the keynote speakers is Dr. Ryo Shirasugi, an esteemed educator and author of the book, "Visual Guide to Learning Theories Leading to Self-Regulation". During the first session on August 24, Dr. Shirasugi will tackle fundamental questions often posed by educators, such as, "What exactly is self-regulated learning?" and "Is it truly self-regulated if students are given choices in their learning?" He will provide an elucidation of the essence of self-regulation in learning, utilizing accessible language and relatable examples suitable for elementary school students.
Dr. Shirasugi has extensive experience, having transitioned from a regular teaching position to a freelancer, where he fills in for teachers on sabbatical. With a master's degree in education from Waseda University, he combines theoretical knowledge with practical teaching strategies. This session will not only explore the theories behind self-regulated learning but will also offer practical tips for teachers to nurture these skills within their classrooms.

Team-Based Learning Approaches
The second event features a talk by Dr. Fuma Yamashita, an elementary school teacher from Ehime Prefecture, who has adopted a team-based free progression learning methodology. Scheduled for August 27, Dr. Yamashita will emphasize the importance of dialogue and collaborative learning in fostering self-regulation.
Drawing from his experience with his sixth-grade class, he will share insights on how subject areas like math and language can incorporate free progression learning. His approach distinctly steers away from individual-based learning, showcasing how orchestrating group dialogues encourages students to take charge of their own learning processes. This method empowers students while ensuring they remain engaged and responsible in a collective learning environment.
