The Earth Saver Project: A New Horizon for Agricultural Education
In a groundbreaking initiative, Plantio Inc., a Tokyo-based social impact startup focused on democratizing agriculture and food, has launched the Earth Saver Project in collaboration with CLASS EARTH Inc. This exciting project aims to promote agricultural and food education, paving the way for the upcoming 2027 International Horticultural Expo (GREEN×EXPO 2027) set to take place in Yokohama.
Kickoff Workshop Scheduled
The first workshop for this initiative is set to take place on April 11, 2026, where children will engage in hands-on learning by creating planters from bamboo harvested from neglected bamboo groves in the Kanto region. Participants will sow seeds of endangered local vegetables known as "絶滅危惧菜™". This multi-year educational program aims for these children to cultivate vegetables that will, on the opening day of the Expo, yield seeds for future generations.
Innovative Features of the Earth Saver Project
1.
Cultivating Sensitivity to Life through Technology
Utilizing Plantio's digital cultivation guide, "grow", children will learn about plant care through a user-friendly app. Sensor data will inform them of when their plants need water or when to thin them out. This experience helps children develop an appreciation for life by recognizing subtle changes in plants.
2.
The Importance of Cultivating Endangered Local Vegetables
Instead of standard commercial produce, the project emphasizes growing local varieties that have coexisted with regional ecosystems. The grow app will visualize how their pots link to local nature, therefore implementing the historical "commons" concept into modern urban living.
3.
Creating Next-Generation Leaders
The initiative does not limit itself to gardening knowledge; it aims to nurture leaders who can logically grasp how their actions impact the planet, aided by technological understanding.
Media and Co-Creation Partner Meeting
After the workshop, companies and organizations that resonate with the project's ethos are invited to a partnership briefing. This session will elaborate on how to realize Nature Positive initiatives and co-create for the 2027 Expo. We'll share insights into how to effectively merge technology with education for impactful outcomes in the years to come. Participants are welcome to observe the workshop and take photographs during the event.

What is Earth Saver?
Originating from the anime "Earth’s Later", the Earth Saver project empowers children to think of ways they can contribute to biodiversity. By focusing on Nature Positive education, SDG-promoting events, and collaborations with schools and municipalities, children will express and share their messages for the future through various forms including music and presentations.
The Grow Initiative
To bridge the gap between people and farming, Grow combines technology and entertainment, providing opportunities for agricultural engagement across urban settings—offices, parks, and even rooftops. Grow aims to lower the barriers to participating in agriculture, ensuring that anyone, anywhere, can engage with local food systems.
