Aobadai Summer Festival 2025: A Celebration of Community

On August 23, 2025, Aobadai Tokyu Square, a community-focused commercial facility operated by Tokyu Malls Development, in collaboration with the Aobadai Shopping Association, will host the "Connect! Aobadai Summer Festival." This exciting event aims to reconnect locals and enhance community ties that have weakened since the pandemic.

Embracing Local Traditions and Products

Since its inception in 1969, the Aobadai Shopping Association has strived to connect local shops with the community. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, large-scale events became increasingly difficult. This year, the festival aims to foster connections by offering a market filled with local charm. Visitors can enjoy a variety of local foods, handmade crafts, and traditional summer activities.

On festival day, attendees can expect to find 11 unique vendors, including Musubi Garden, a natural food specialty shop, and Stadt Schinken, a German ham and sausage store that boasts authentic German craftsmanship, the only one located in Aobadai. The event will not only feature these vendors but also provide an opportunity for university students from Toin Yokohama University, who have been actively engaging with the community, to participate as event staff.

Fun Activities and Cultural Experience

In addition to the market, the festival will host nostalgic summer activities, ideal for creating lasting memories. The event runs from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the atrium of South-1 Main Building.

The festival is just one part of a larger initiative that encourages ongoing connections within the community. Throughout August, Aobadai Tokyu Square will also host various school collaborative events. On August 2, the Mitakeda Middle School Brass Band will perform, connecting students and community members through music. Moreover, from August 9 to 11, the Toin Gakuen Railway Research Club will exhibit their railway models, providing a unique educational opportunity for summer research.

Continuing Local Engagement

The Aobadai Summer Festival is part of a broader initiative known as "FIND LOCAL," created to cultivate the unique characteristics of each community. This program encourages residents, local businesses, and institutions to discover, compile, and share the local charm. By focusing on the area’s unique food, culture, and art, the festival fosters a welcoming environment for all residents to strengthen their connections to their community.
