Keith Holland's Latest Single 'Get on Board' Explores the Afterlife with a Ghost Train

Keith Holland's Latest Single 'Get on Board'

Australian singer-songwriter Keith Holland has entered an intriguing new phase in his musical journey with the release of his latest single, 'Get on Board'. This track represents the second offering from his upcoming sophomore album, 'Castles in the Sand,' set to debut this September. Unlike his prior single, 'Life,' which delves into existential themes, 'Get on Board' unveils a vivid narrative reflecting on the mysteries of life and time.

The song recounts the experience of a narrator who finds himself drifting into sleep with an old railway journal in hand. Upon awakening, he discovers he has been transported to an eerie, long-abandoned train platform where mystical events unfold. A haunting whistle resonates as a ghostly train arrives, and with it comes an old conductor, described by Holland as possessing “the eyes of father time.”

The conductor’s enchanting invitation to “Get on board, this train is going somewhere” captures listeners’ attention, but the deeper message soon follows, emphasizing, “Son, you know this is not your journey; there's still so much in life you have to do.” This line poignantly suggests that the narrator's time hasn't yet come, offering a sense of solace regarding the timing of life's inevitable conclusions.

Holland’s inspiration for this narrative comes from the numerous desolate railway stations scattered across rural Australia, which he describes as quietly moving symbols of life's impermanence. 'Get on Board' artfully transforms this contemplation into a comforting realization: death only arrives when the time is genuinely right, never a moment before.

The artistic direction of the song showcases Holland's talents as he played nearly all the instruments himself, enlisting the expertise of long-time collaborator Greg Stace on drums, who also managed the mixing and mastering at Ralph Street Studios in Sydney. The recording took place in Keitho's Factory, a home studio that Holland meticulously built in Corowa.

Interestingly, Holland's journey into music has been anything but conventional. Prior to embracing his musical aspirations, he dedicated most of his adult life to social welfare. The turning point came during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when he resolved to fully explore his musical potential. A local newspaper advertisement seeking a music marketing expert led him to connect with Albury-based Jon Navaho, who dedicated two years to mentoring Holland in music production and arrangement. This collaboration significantly shaped Holland's debut album, 'All in the Groove.'

Building upon this lived experience, 'Castles in the Sand' features 11 tracks that traverse mainstream and country rock influences, and 'Get on Board' stands out as one of the album's most illustrative pieces, encapsulating clear messages about life and the passage of time. As Holland continues to carve out his path in the music industry, his sincere storytelling and musical craft resonate deeply, and with each release, he invites listeners to reflect on their own journeys through life.

For further updates and insights into Keith Holland's evolving musical landscape, fans can keep an eye out for 'Castles in the Sand' due out this September. This album promises to be a compelling exploration filled with poignant narratives and captivating melodies that echo the complexities of existence.
