The Frederick Arts Council is delighted to announce an open call for artists, inviting creative minds to participate in the upcoming exhibition, titled
"Where Energy Meets Matter - Exploring the Frontiers of Science". This exciting event, organized in partnership with the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, is set to run from
November 20, 2025 through
January 20, 2026, at
Gallery 115, located within the Y Arts Center at
115 E Church St, Frederick, MD 21701.
This exhibition uniquely aims to showcase the captivating relationship between art and science, serving as a platform that celebrates groundbreaking research and innovation taking place at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and other significant institutions in Frederick County. Artists are encouraged to explore how the concepts of energy and matter manifest visually in their work, whether through themes of physics, biology, or the invisible forces that shape our reality.
Frederick County is home to some of the world’s most notable scientific advancements, primarily driven by the advanced technology utilized at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. Within the Advanced Technology Research Facility (ATRF) and various laboratories on Fort Detrick, scientists engage in pioneering research that reveals biological structures down to the atomic level. Their work encompasses enhancing genome editing, developing insightful cancer diagnostics from liquid biopsies, and modeling human organ structures on a microscale. The potential for creativity is vast, and artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from these scientific endeavors.
The Frederick Arts Council invites artists to submit up to two pieces of artwork in JPEG or PNG format. Alongside the images, artists must provide an artist statement of up to
250 words, elucidating how their piece aligns with the exhibition theme, as well as a resume or bio. Artists are welcomed to present existing works that resonate with the spirit of the theme or create new pieces inspired by the insights and discoveries associated with the Frederick National Laboratory's projects.
All applications need to be made via
SlideRoom, with a deadline for submissions set for
November 5, 2025, at
11:59 PM. Interested participants can find the submission link
