Yushi Dangami's Solo Exhibition: A Journey into Nature's Sublimity
Beginning on March 25, 2026, and continuing through April 5, 2026, NEW Gallery will present Yushi Dangami's solo exhibition titled "Messenger of the Cosmos: Sublimity Exists in the Micros." This highly anticipated event showcases the artist's unique approach to art, featuring works that delve into the intricate interplay between nature and human existence.
Born in 1995 in Ehime, Japan, Yushi Dangami graduated from Musashino Art University in 2019, specializing in oil painting. His artistic journey centers around the ancient technique of using beeswax, derived from honeycomb, to create powerful visual narratives. His art themes reflect the cycles of life and rebirth, shedding light on humanity's relationship with the natural world.
In this upcoming exhibition, Dangami will exhibit a series of beeswax paintings dubbed "Sympoiesis." This collection is the result of a collaborative effort between the artist and beekeepers, illustrating the profound connection between humans and bees. The artworks present a layered examination of our realities, exploring themes such as faith in the sun and the concept of an "open garden." Through these themes, Dangami pushes the viewers to contemplate multiple perspectives beyond anthropocentrism.
The exhibition aims to engage visitors in reflecting on our connections with the environment and our existence within the vast, cyclical frame of nature and ecosystems. The perspective of life forms, no matter how small, invites viewers to consider the quiet yet essential connections we share with our surroundings.
Additionally, the exhibition will showcase three-dimensional beeswax works by the renowned social sculptor Joseph Beuys. By engaging with each piece slowly, audiences are encouraged to find personal insights and foster meaningful dialogues with the artworks. Thus, attending the exhibition promises a rewarding experience that deepens our connection with art and nature.
Accompanying the exhibition will be an opening reception on March 25, 2026, from 18:00 to 20:00, where attendees can meet the artist and other art enthusiasts. Moreover, a talk session with cultural anthropologist and design anthropologist Hiroshi Nakamura will take place on March 27, 2026, from 19:00 to 20:30. This session will not require reservations, inviting anyone interested to partake in this enriching conversation with Dangami.
Yushi Dangami’s work has garnered attention across media platforms such as NHK, BS Fuji, The Japan Times, and more—commendations reflective of his commitment to art that reflects social and environmental themes. His advocacy for art as a means of revival in regions affected by natural disasters, particularly in response to the heavy rains in Western Japan, illustrates his social consciousness and dedication to regeneration.
