Celebrating Sustainable Mixology: Jared Schmidt Crowned Champion of the World's Sustainable Cocktail 2025

In an inspiring celebration of talent, purpose, and sustainability, Jared Schmidt, representing Osetra Bar in Canada, has been crowned the World's Sustainable Cocktail Champion for 2025. This prestigious accolade was awarded during the global finals held in the breathtaking landscapes of Granada, Nicaragua, on March 7, 2026, as part of the renowned Flor de Caña Sustainable Cocktail Challenge. This year marked the 135th anniversary of the Flor de Caña brand, with the competition focusing on classic cocktail recipes reimagined through a modern, sustainable lens. The event gathered 15 of the world's top mixologists, selected from over 25 participating countries, all united by a commitment to a more sustainable future in the cocktail industry.

The finalists showcased their creativity and cocktail crafting skills against the stunning backdrop of the Mombacho volcano, where they were tasked with creating cocktails that perfectly balance extraordinary taste with environmentally conscious practices. Flor de Caña, known for its carbon-neutral certified rum produced using 100% renewable energy, emphasizes sustainability by planting over a million trees and supporting initiatives that inspire bartenders globally.

Following two intense rounds of competition, including an innovative "Sustainable Market" challenge, Jared captivated the judges with his exceptional skills and passion. His winning cocktail, titled "Por mundo limpio," is a sustainable twist on a classic from the Golden Era, artfully blending 12-Year Flor de Caña Rum with caramelized mushrooms, organic cane sugar, and nori, creating a bold yet nuanced flavor profile. As the Global Champion, Jared received the prestigious title, a $10,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a sustainability assessment for Osetra Bar in collaboration with the Sustainable Restaurant Association.

"This has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I am incredibly thankful to Flor de Caña, the judges, and my fellow competitors. It was truly something special to experience Nicaragua and connect with such an inspiring global bartender community," expressed Jared Schmidt after his victory. The runner-up position was claimed by Phát Tran Guia from the Firkin Bar in Vietnam, while Dawid Stoch from Art Katowice Bar in Poland secured the third place, showcasing the exceptional talent present on the global stage.

The jury consisted of esteemed professionals, including Danil Nevsky, recognized as the second-best in the Bar World 100 and best international bar mentor at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, Kendall Hauer, a luxury dining and beverage expert based in Miami, Luis Inchaurraga, an Argentine mixologist with over 25 years of experience, and Gary Gruver, Director of Global Beverage Operations at Marriott International.
