PenFed Foundation's Celebration of Service Achieves Over $1.2 Million to Support Veterans

PenFed Foundation's Remarkable Impact on Veterans

On May 15, 2025, the PenFed Foundation hosted its annual Celebration of Service at The National Press Club in Tysons, Virginia. This event marked a significant milestone as it raised over $1.2 million, underscoring the organization’s ongoing commitment to empowering veterans as they transition into civilian life.

The celebration was not just about fundraising; it honored several heroic figures whose efforts have positively impacted the veteran community. Notably, the evening featured a special partnership between the PenFed Foundation and the creators of the acclaimed film, SHEEPDOG, aimed at bringing awareness to the challenges faced by veterans. During the event, free movie tickets were distributed to veterans attending screenings of SHEEPDOG, providing a chance for them to engage with stories that resonate with their experiences.

Among the distinguished guests were Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen, Tony nominee Lilli Cooper, and actors Steven Grayhm and Matt Dallas. Their participation highlighted the collaboration between the arts and veteran advocacy, making a powerful statement about the role of storytelling in honoring service members.

Honoring Our Heroes

The PenFed Foundation also recognized outstanding individuals with awards that celebrate their contributions to veteran communities. Gretchen Evans, a retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major, received the Military Hero Award for her work in establishing Team Unbroken, an adaptive racing team for veterans. This initiative focuses on individuals affected by life-altering injuries and helps them find purpose and community through racing. Acknowledging her efforts, the foundation awarded her a $25,000 grant to support her team.

The Military Advocacy Award went to Jimmy Graham, a former NFL star who now leads The Jimmy Graham Foundation. His foundation is dedicated to providing flights for underprivileged youth, which introduces them to aviation while honoring veterans’ stories. Graham was pleasantly surprised during the ceremony when a West Point student he mentored appeared to express gratitude for his guidance.

The Corporate Hero Award was presented to **Charles E.
