Emplifi's New Report Highlights AI's Role in Boosting Marketing Productivity Amid Social Media Challenges

Emplifi's Insightful Survey on AI and Social Media Marketing

In the fast-evolving landscape of digital marketing, Emplifi has shared key insights from its recent report titled "The State of Social Media Marketing 2027." This comprehensive survey involved 405 marketing professionals from the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, highlighting the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on marketing productivity and the ongoing challenges in social media strategies.

Key Findings on AI and Productivity

A staggering 87% of marketers surveyed acknowledged that AI has played a significant role in enhancing their team's efficiency. However, while 38% of respondents noted substantial productivity improvements due to AI tools, the majority experienced only meaningful gains rather than groundbreaking changes.

AI has been most effectively applied in areas such as captioning and copywriting (72% usage), ideation (70%), and image generation (64%). Nonetheless, community management remains underutilized, with 60% of marketers indicating they have not yet adopted AI for this role. This suggests a growing recognition of AI's potential, but also highlights substantial room for further implementation in various marketing activities.

The Challenge of Proving ROI

While improvements in productivity are apparent, a critical concern remains — proving the return on investment (ROI) for social media efforts. Less than half (48%) of marketers feel confident in demonstrating their social media ROI to leadership. The most commonly cited key performance indicators (KPIs) include reach and impressions (58%) and engagement rates, while only about 30% quantify social-attributed revenue as a top priority. Moreover, the complexity of attribution continues to hamper marketers' efforts to report on their impact effectively.

Governance and AI Policy in Marketing

The report also sheds light on the governance of AI use in marketing. Approximately 37% of organizations have established a comprehensive AI policy, while 41% have partial guidelines. The primary barriers to broader AI adoption include concerns regarding brand safety and content quality (26%), lack of skills or training (19%), and the integration of AI tools with existing systems (16%). As the marketing industry grapples with these issues, establishing effective governance policies will be essential for unlocking the full potential of AI.

Insights on Reporting and Analytics

Despite the known impacts of AI, reporting and analytics remain time-consuming tasks for marketers. Over 62% report spending four or more hours each week on these activities. However, AI seems to provide some relief, with 69% of respondents claiming it has saved them three or more hours per week in reporting efforts. This time-saving aspect of AI is crucial, as it allows marketers to redirect their focus towards more strategic tasks.

The Influence of Social Media and AI Visibility

A notable trend identified in the report is that an overwhelming 86% of marketers view optimizing social content for search as a formal priority over the next year. Active monitoring of brand visibility in AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude is on the rise, with 48% of marketers engaged in this practice. Despite this shift, only slightly over a third have a defined strategy for AI visibility, indicating a need for clearer frameworks in integrating AI into marketing strategies.

Looking to the Future

As the landscape continues to evolve, a significant 53% of marketers anticipate an increase in their influencer marketing budgets in the coming year. Instinctively, the demand for genuine content will rise, with traditional platforms like Instagram still holding a key position for investment. The report also reveals alarming potential for burnout; while 86% of marketers report an increase in their workload, only 54% say their teams have expanded in size.

In the words of Claire Wilson, CMO of Emplifi, “In 2027, the strongest social strategies will not be defined by how much content teams can produce, but by how well they turn every interaction into measurable business value and enhance customer experiences.” This sentiment underscores a vital shift in marketing strategies towards achieving strategic goals, rather than just churning out content.

For those interested in a more in-depth exploration of these findings, the complete report is available for download on the Emplifi website. Additionally, Emplifi will host a webinar to further discuss these insights on November 4, 2026, featuring the renowned creator and social strategist Lia Haberman.

As marketing professionals navigate the rapidly changing digital landscape, understanding the capabilities and challenges of AI will be paramount in refining their strategies and proving their worth in the marketplace.
