VOGUE JAPAN's January 2026 Issue Focuses on Art in Everyday Life

Embracing Art in Everyday Life: VOGUE JAPAN January 2026 Issue

The highly anticipated January 2026 issue of VOGUE JAPAN hits the stands on December 1, introducing a fresh and innovative direction that captures the essence of art in daily living. This iconic fashion publication has undergone a significant redesign, appealing to both local and global audiences. For the first time since its inception, the magazine transitions from a right-hand opening to a left-hand opening format, along with a shift to horizontal text layout. In line with international standards, the contents now feature bilingual titles in both English and Japanese, complemented by a revamped font that enhances readability.

Rina Kutsovskaya, the contributing creative director behind the magazine’s new design, remarks, "This issue of VOGUE JAPAN embarks on a bold and refreshed direction. We are strengthening our design aspects and embracing new photography challenges, aiming to delve deeper into Japanese culture. We hope to reach not only our Japanese readers but also globally fashion-savvy audiences."

The central theme of this month's edition is “Art of the New.” The cover story, titled “PASTEL UTOPIA: Light and Curves,” features a groundbreaking fashion shoot at the Atelier YUPTILA located in Miyako Island, curated by contemporary artist Mariko Mori. With a breathtaking backdrop inspired by white coral and devoid of straight lines, top model Chloé Oh showcases a stunning one-tone ensemble that weaves a captivating artistic narrative.

Other highlights include a street-level exploration of fashion-as-art captured in the photo spread “Art Blossoming Amidst the Chaos,” alongside a special feature titled “Bags Full of Surprises: Art Transformed by Takashi Murakami.” This monthly edition also serves up exclusive travel content that spotlights remarkable art destinations resonating with nature and architecture.

In addition to captivating art features, the issue informs readers about the upcoming 2026 Spring/Summer Collection through a report by Nicole Phelps, director of VOGUE BUSINESS and VOGUE RUNWAY. Notably, an interview with Julien Cloosner, the successor to founder Dries Van Noten, reveals insights from his visit to Japan, as well as an introduction to the maison's debut collection. For fashion enthusiasts, dedicated segments like “Débutant” present must-read content.

Furthermore, this issue also includes VOGUE JAPAN's annual “VOGUE BEAUTY AWARDS 2025,” a separate booklet that highlights the year's most acclaimed beauty products carefully curated for discerning readers.

Special Feature: THE ONES TO WATCH 2025

Continuing the legacy of VOGUE JAPAN Women of the Year since 2005, this special feature “THE ONES TO WATCH” celebrates gender-free champions who have profoundly impacted cultural scenes and society. The edition features 22 individuals from 8 groups, including notable figures such as VERDY, Soushi Otsuki, Keiko Kitagawa, and Snow Man. Readers can delve into exclusive interviews and stunning visuals showcasing these groundbreaking icons’ current status across various fields including film, television, music, and design.

Beauty Insights: PERFECT POISE

The BEAUTY section of this issue turns the spotlight on the essential role of bone structure in beauty. It emphasizes that true beauty comes not only from surface-level skin and muscle aesthetics but also from acknowledging and nurturing our skeletal framework. Readers can adopt practical techniques for cultivating foundational beauty through methods like proper posture, breathing exercises, enhancing leg appearance, correcting slouched shoulders, and maintaining facial contours. These accessible tips empower readers to integrate the essence of beauty into their daily lives.
