Elephants' Special Pop-Up Exhibition at Kiyomizu-dera
Kyoto's select shop,
elephants, is set to host a remarkable pop-up exhibition at the world heritage site
Kiyomizu-dera's treasured
Kido building, which is usually closed to the public. From
November 26 to 30, 2025, this exclusive event will allow visitors to step into an area steeped in history that is rarely visible. The event coincides with the evening special viewing of Kiyomizu-dera, which begins on
November 22, providing a breathtakingly illuminated experience within the tranquil and historic setting.
Elephants, which opened in April 2019, has become a focal point for luxurious streetwear and avant-garde fashion in Kyoto, a city rich with tradition. The upcoming exhibition will showcase select items from
Maison Mihara Yasuhiro, a brand newly introduced by elephants as part of the 2025 autumn/winter collection. Visitors will be treated to a specially crafted display by the Japanese speaker brand
COTODAMA, merging sound and light into an enchanting atmosphere.
In a bid to explore the deeper connections between music, fashion, and art, elephants will also feature a
COTODAMA Pop-Up Store inside its premises during the same period. This showcases three special limited editions, curated with an artistic approach that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the COTODAMA brand, which seeks to enrich the bond between music and listeners. The three features include limited editions from Seattle-based artist
CHITO, renowned tattoo artist
Dr. Woo, and Australian mixed media artist
Pauly, all of whom represent diverse cultures through their work. This exhibition marks a pioneering moment in the intersection of sound and visual art in Japan.
Moreover, throughout the pop-up exhibition, COTODAMA will also present a special showcase in collaboration with Kiyomizu-yaki pottery artisans, offering two distinct curatorial experiences for visitors.
Elephants and
Kiyomizu-dera together create richly varied encounters with culture, resonating with the depths and stories of Kyoto itself.
