FlyUSA Expands Its Footprint with New 50,000-Square-Foot Hub in Tampa

FlyUSA Introduces a Major New Facility

FlyUSA, a renowned private jet charter and aviation solutions provider based in the U.S., has just made a significant move by inaugurating a 50,000-square-foot hangar at the bustling Tampa International Airport (TPA). This new hub not only consolidates FlyUSA's core maintenance operations but also features exclusive amenities for aircraft owners.

Demand for Larger Aircraft

With the unveiling of this facility, FlyUSA aims to address the pressing demand for accommodating larger private jets, particularly in light of its growing regional fleet. The new hangar can comfortably house around 20 light, midsize, and heavy jets, incorporating a specialized tail door to facilitate aircraft as large as a Boeing 737. Notably, this facility can cater to the latest models from the likes of Gulfstream and Bombardier, ensuring clients have access to cutting-edge aviation technology.

Barry Shevlin, CEO of FlyUSA, expressed optimism regarding this expansion, stating, “The sheer size of the hangar should help accelerate our move into managing larger aircraft.”

A Shift in Aviation Infrastructure

The inauguration of this hangar comes at a time when the aviation sector grapples with a critical infrastructure lag, as reported by Sky Harbour. As business jets evolve, they place increased demands on airport facilities. Shevlin noted, “The hangar shortage is still definitely an issue, and it's particularly bad for people buying the newest ultra-long-range aircraft like the Gulfstream G700.” Many existing hangars simply do not accommodate such large aircraft.

Exclusive Owners-Only Lounge

A standout feature of this new hub is the owners-only lounge, meticulously designed to serve FlyUSA aircraft owners exclusively. Unlike typical FBO lounges catering to multiple operators, this space offers private lockers, conference facilities, and a comfortable environment resembling a private club. This exclusivity enhances the experience for FlyUSA clients, allowing them to enjoy faster and more efficient services during peak times.

Shevlin emphasized the advantages of this dedicated facility, saying, “In our facility, it's just us. Our owners are the priority. It just runs smoother.” This ensures that operations are optimized, particularly during busy travel periods when many operators compete for the same resources.

Career Opportunities in Aviation

Additionally, this hub goes beyond merely servicing private jets; it creates a pathway for career growth within the aviation industry. FlyUSA is committed to fostering talent from within, with many current team members aspiring to become pilots or maintenance technicians. Shevlin confirmed, “That career path doesn't exist at an FBO,” highlighting the potential for employee retention and development at FlyUSA.

Looking Ahead: Future Plans

As FlyUSA continues to grow, its ambitions extend beyond this Tampa facility, aiming to operate a total of 100 aircraft and achieve an annual revenue of $500 million by 2032. Another 50,000-square-foot hangar is in the pipeline in Lakeland, Florida, expected to serve heavy maintenance checks and further bolster FlyUSA’s operational capabilities.

Shevlin concluded, “We expect the combination of hangar space and owners-only lounge to be the blueprint for locations in other important markets.” FlyUSA's expansion in Tampa signifies a pivotal growth phase for the company, underscored by its recognition on the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest-growing private aviation companies.
