  • - Nominees must be 50 years of age or older.
  • - The contributions for which they are nominated should have been made on a voluntary basis, meaning no formal payment is received, although small stipends to cover costs associated with volunteering are acceptable.
  • - The work done by the nominee should align with AARP's vision and purpose, showcasing values that are commendable and inspirational.
  • - The project or service must be replicable, providing a model for others seeking to contribute similarly.
  • - It's worth noting that partisan political involvement will not be taken into consideration for the award.
  • - Couples or partners serving together can be nominated, but teams are not eligible.
  • - Previous recipients of the Andrus Award cannot be nominated, and those serving on the selection committee as well as AARP staff are also ineligible.
  • - This award is not given posthumously.
