Introduction to the New Inbound Visitor Flow Analysis Dashboard
On April 1, 2026, the Japan Tourism Promotion Association, spearheaded by its President, Masanobu Komoda, and Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., launched its latest feature: the Inbound Visitor Flow Analysis Dashboard. Operated through the Digital Platform for Japanese Tourism (commonly known as Digipura), this dashboard provides a multifaceted analysis and visualization of the movement data of inbound foreign visitors to Japan.
Background: Increasing Demand for Data Utilization
In recent years, Japan has experienced a dramatic uptick in inbound tourists, with projections for 2025 estimating a record number of 42.68 million visitors. As this influx surges, local governments and Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) are compelled to enhance their data utilization strategies, helping them formulate evidence-based policies (EBPM). However, previously, understanding the travel routes and patterns of visitors from various countries posed significant challenges. To address these issues, the introduction of this innovative dashboard was made possible with the support of Open Tone, Inc., a company renowned for its expertise in tourism big data analysis.
What is the Inbound Visitor Flow Analysis Dashboard?
The Inbound Visitor Flow Analysis Dashboard is a powerful tool featuring six distinct analytical views that visualize the movement-related statistical data of foreign visitors to Japan. By integrating nationality-based data from countries like South Korea, China, Taiwan, ASEAN nations, and Europe with data classified by transportation modes such as airports, ports, rail, and bus, stakeholders can achieve a well-rounded understanding of inbound tourism trends across regions. The dashboard utilizes two significant public statistical sources:
1.
FF-Data: This dataset contains inter-regional movement data of inbound foreign visitors as published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

2.
Entry and Exit Statistics: Published by the Ministry of Justice, this contains data on the number of entrants and departures.
