A Celebration of Tamagotchi's 30th Anniversary in Hokkaido
The much-anticipated exhibition titled "Oatamagotchi Ten" will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the beloved digital pet, Tamagotchi, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, from June 6 to June 28, 2026. This event will take place on the third floor of Sapporo Factory, providing an immersive experience that allows visitors to explore the charm of Tamagotchi like never before.
Since its debut by Bandai in 1996, Tamagotchi quickly became a cultural phenomenon, particularly among high school girls, leading to a digital pet craze. With advancements over the years—including infrared communication introduced in 2004, touch LCD displays in 2021, and Wi-Fi capabilities in 2023—Tamagotchi has sold a total of 38 different models and continues to thrive in more than 50 regions worldwide. As of July 31, 2025, the total shipment volume of Tamagotchi surpassed 100 million units, reflecting its enduring popularity.
The upcoming exhibition will not only look back at the last three decades of Tamagotchi's legacy but also provide a playful and whimsical journey into the virtual world of these quirky and adorable creatures. Visitors can expect to delve deep into the charm and characteristics of their favorite digital pets, and discover the playful essence that has captured hearts across generations.
