Taking place on August 16, 2025, with a rain date of August 17, the Future Park Lab 2025 Summer invites the community to participate in a unique series of activities at Serigaya Park in Machida. This event encourages citizens to immerse themselves in nature while experiencing various artistic expressions that the park has to offer.
Event Overview
Attendees will have a chance to explore the enchanting world of shadow puppetry with live performances, partake in workshops, and navigate through a night museum—creating an unforgettable evening under the stars. Here’s what to expect during this vibrant summer event:

Shadow Puppet World:
Enjoy a captivating shadow performance featuring traditional Indonesian ‘Wayang Kulit’ directed by master puppeteer Kohhei Kawamura. Backed by the sounds of traditional Indonesian instruments, this mesmerizing show transforms a summer night into a magical experience, showcasing characters that will grow and shrink before your very eyes. This segment is free of charge with no prior application necessary.

Create Your Own Shadow Puppet:
In this workshop, participants will craft shadow puppets themed around imaginary creatures that might inhabit Serigaya Park. Collaborating with curators from the International Print Museum, attendees will draw inspiration from an ongoing exhibition. Those interested may even have the chance to perform during the evening’s performances. This section requires prior reservations and is free of charge, with bookings open from August 6 to August 14.

Food Sample Workshop:
Have fun creating lifelike food replicas in this interactive workshop! This year’s highlight will be making refreshing snow cones, perfect for the summer heat. A fee of 1200 yen applies for this workshop, and reservations are necessary, also from August 6 to August 14.

Night Museum Exploration:
Explore the museum after hours in an exclusive night tour! Expect to view artwork in a different light, but be advised that this segment may feature dark elements. Registration is needed in advance, and it’s free of charge, with similar booking windows as the other workshops.

Sparkling Goldfish and an Evening of Lights:
Experience an illuminating spectacle created by students from Tamagawa University as they adorn the park with sparkling goldfish and glowing bubbles against the backdrop of twilight.

Animal Treasure Hunt:
Discover whimsical lamps inspired by the actual animal collections from the Machida City Museum. Participants will receive commemorative gifts based on the number of creatures they find, making for an exciting scavenger hunt. No prior registration is required for this activity, and it is free of charge.

Summer Creatures Bingo Exploration:
Embark on an adventure in Serigaya Park to observe wildlife and complete your bingo card with sightings. Expert guides will offer informative insights, enhancing this delightful outdoor experience—reservations are required.

Green Storytelling with Noodle Kits:
Join a workshop where families will learn about the park’s formation and surrounding environment while crafting bamboo rice kits. Enjoy a unique river-like noodle experience at home! Again, this activity is free but requires prior booking from August 6 to August 14.

DIY Cardboard Planetarium:
Create your personalized planetarium using cardboard and real star maps! When darkened, it will illuminate your room with constellations visible on the ceiling. No prior reservation is needed, and all are welcome to join this fun activity.
