Empowering Women: Highlights from WOMAN EXPO 2025
On June 7, Hikarie Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo, hosted the highly anticipated WOMAN EXPO 2025, a comprehensive event dedicated to supporting working women. Created as part of the Nikkei Womanomics Project, which has been ongoing since 2014, the WOMAN EXPO serves as a platform to foster an environment where women can thrive in their professional careers.
The event featured various media from the Nikkei Group, including the informative magazine "Nikkei Woman" and the helpful online resource "Nikkei x Woman." These platforms aim to provide essential information and experiences through seminars and exhibitions tailored specifically for working women.
One of the key seminars, titled "Realizing Dreams Through Writing!" featured screenwriter Erika Yoshida and author Azabu Keiba. They discussed the intricacies of balancing social media engagement, personal life, and work, sharing insights on how to maintain a long-term perspective rather than getting caught up in momentary successes or failures. Their unique experiences as writers attempting to achieve self-realization while managing family and work responsibilities resonated deeply with the audience.
Another captivating session titled "Insights from Manga Creators: Embracing Life as Women in the Reiwa Era" included manga artist Satoru Hiura, known for popular works like "Hotaru no Hikari" and "Saionji-san Doesn’t Do Housework." Hiura inspired women by sharing her creative motivations, thoughts on her works, and the lessons learned from her travels. As the creator of the term "Himono Onna" (dried fish woman), she explained how naming the "unspoken truths" of women provided them with validation and recognition, emphasizing the joy of creation in her profession.
The day concluded with a special session featuring executives from leading companies recognized in the top 100 companies for women's participation, as identified by Nikkei Woman. Umeda Megumi from EY Japan and Ejima Mayumi from ANA Holdings shared their stories of overcoming challenges throughout their careers. Their determination to embrace difficult circumstances and leverage their strengths inspired many attendees.
Beyond the seminars, the event offered additional valuable sessions on topics such as managing unique female health issues, the essentials for pursuing fulfilling careers, parenting guidance in education, and honing leadership skills while staying true to oneself. Exhibitors showcased a variety of offerings, including wine tasting from Hokkaido, skin-friendly mist showers, money advice, and study consultation areas. The exhibition hall became a lively hub, attracting a crowd so large it necessitated entry restrictions.
Moreover, workshops like chair yoga and new beauty habits were conducted on an open stage, drawing enthusiastic participation from attendees eager to take notes and engage with the valuable content provided.
The next WOMAN EXPO 2025 Winter is scheduled for November 29 at Tokyo Midtown Hall, with further details expected to be announced in the autumn of 2025 via their official channels.
