A Unique Initiative by Avispa Fukuoka: Introducing Fire Hydrant Signboards at TAKE ACTION Month Event

The renowned J-League team, Avispa Fukuoka, is launching an innovative project in collaboration with two distinguished companies, Fire Hydrant Sign Company and Fire Safety Sign Company, at their upcoming event, "TAKE ACTION Month!" on October 4. This event is set to unveil the design of new fire hydrant sponsor signboards, marking the first such initiative in Japan's J1 league. The signboards aim to bring attention to fire hydrant locations while promoting community support for Avispa Fukuoka.

Collaboration Background

The project, which kicked off earlier this year, showcases a collaborative spirit, aiming to merge community safety with support for local sports teams. The initiative is spearheaded by Takashi Okada, who oversees the Sports Alliance Department at Fire Hydrant Sign Company based in Tokyo. The Fire Safety Sign Company, situated in Fukuoka, will handle the installation and maintenance of these signboards, emphasizing their shared commitment to enhancing community safety and engagement through sports.

Understanding Fire Hydrant Signboards

Fire hydrant signboards are critical during emergencies, helping responders quickly locate hydrant access points to control flames. Featuring a distinct red pole and a circular board labeled "Fire Hydrant," these markers also come with advertising space, providing funding for maintenance by private companies. However, a significant challenge remains; in Tokyo, approximately 80% of available advertising space on these boards goes unused, with a national average of 70%. This partnership between Avispa Fukuoka and the hydrant companies aims to increase awareness and encourage better utilization of these vital community resources.

Partnering for Community Safety

There are around 20 private companies nationwide managing these fire hydrant signboards, with the Fire Safety Sign Company overseeing operations in Fukuoka. Despite their positive efforts, the high rate of unused advertising spaces indicates a pressing need for revitalized marketing strategies to ensure the sustainability of these fire hydrant signs. Avispa Fukuoka’s involvement is seen as an essential step towards cultivating a culture of community support and entrepreneurial engagement.

Community-Centric Sports Engagement

To further enhance community relevance, Fire Hydrant Sign Company has created a partnership system that aligns with regional sports teams, enabling them to utilize advertising spaces while supporting the teams. This initiative aims to capture the interest of local businesses eager to engage in community-oriented projects. Beginning in 2024, this partnership program will expand across various sports teams, leveraging local support to reinforce safety awareness alongside athletic endeavors.

The TAKE ACTION Month! Event

Scheduled for October, the "TAKE ACTION Month!" event aims to empower individuals to take ownership of societal issues rather than waiting for others to make a change. This experience-driven initiative encourages attendees to reflect and act, enhancing their consciousness and involvement in social challenges. Following the success of last year's event, this year’s event promises to be more extensive and impactful.

On October 4, at 15:00, the feat will coincide with a major match against Yokohama FC for the J1 League, commemorating the club's 30th anniversary. Events such as an OB match and large-scale projects like "Home Town Clean-up Operations 2025," "Life-Saving AED Training," and "Blind Soccer Experience" will take place, encouraging participation from the community.

The unveiling of the personalized Avispa fire hydrant signboards is one of several highlights of the event aimed at integrating sports and safety within the community. Through these efforts, Avispa Fukuoka and its partners are paving the way for a more safety-conscious society, leveraging the excitement of sports to address fundamental community concerns.
