BAIC FOTON Unveils Innovations in Plant Tour and Driving Experience at Africa Partners Conference

BAIC FOTON Africa Partners Conference: A Drive to Great

On October 29, 2026, the BAIC FOTON Africa Partner Conference, under the theme 'Drive to Great', took place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. This significant event drew nearly 700 distributors, key accounts, and industry partners from 42 different African nations to explore the latest innovations and production capabilities of BAIC FOTON.

Plant Tour Highlights

A major highlight of the conference was a guided tour of BAIC FOTON's South African manufacturing facility, located in the Coega Development Zone. The plant is a pivotal manufacturing hub for the BAIC Group in Africa. During the tour, participants gained invaluable insights into BAIC’s achievements in the synergy between passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as the advantages of localized manufacturing. Attendees were able to view BAIC’s lineup of both passenger and commercial vehicles, all produced on-site, underscoring the role that localized production plays in supporting regional supply chains and industrial synergy.

Currently, the BAIC South Africa Plant utilizes integrated processes for welding, painting, and assembly. Notably, FOTON trucks began their SKD production in January 2025, followed by the trial assembly of AUMAN heavy-duty tractors in March. By August, the SKD production of FOTON trucks had ramped up to mass production, and by September, the small-batch CKD trial production of FOTON pickups commenced.

Diverse Vehicle Showcase

In addition to the plant tour, the conference featured a dynamic static display of various vehicle models at a nearby race track. Heavy trucks, light trucks, pickups, and vans were prominently presented, allowing attendees to directly engage with the vehicles' design, technical specifications, and practical applications tailored to different transportation needs. BAIC FOTON’s strategic product placement reflects their commitment to developing vehicles optimized for trunk logistics, complex engineering transport conditions, and adaptable urban-rural distribution operations.

Interactive Driving Experience

One of the standout experiences was a driving session held on the racetrack, aimed at validating the performance and quality of BAIC FOTON's products. Performance metrics such as power, handling stability, and overall control were put to the test in a controlled environment. Notably, two TUNLAND G7 pickups executed impressive stunts, including 360-degree spins and coordinated maneuvers, effectively showcasing their agility and responsiveness.

To enhance engagement, several experience zones were established for different vehicle categories which encouraged participants to engage directly with the trucks and pickups. This allowed guests to appreciate the handling and ride comfort of various models, further demonstrating BAIC FOTON’s versatility in meeting the diverse operational challenges faced across Africa.

Conclusion

The BAIC FOTON Africa Partners Conference not only served as an opportunity for networking and knowledge sharing but also highlighted the brand's commitment to innovation and local manufacturing. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, BAIC FOTON remains at the forefront, shaping its future strategies around the demands of the African market. With significant investment in local production and a robust lineup of vehicles tailored for various conditions, the company is well-positioned to drive growth and reinforce its presence across the continent.
