Tomakomai Citizen Cultural Hall: 'Art Cubes'
Scheduled to open in March 2026, the Tomakomai Citizen Cultural Hall, now named 'Art Cubes,' will serve as an essential cultural and artistic exchange center in the heart of Tomakomai, Hokkaido. Managed by the special purpose company, Hito to Makomai Partners, in collaboration with Theatre Workshop, this site aims to be a welcoming place for everyone, fostering connections through art.
Overview
The new name ‘Art Cubes’ reflects our vision of a building resembling stacked cubes of cultural and artistic activities (ART). This aligns our building's name with its conception, enhancing its appeal and making the purpose clear to visitors. Apart from some designated names, the facility will also incorporate operational names for various rooms. Here are some examples:
- - Hall A: Grand Hall, inspired by a flowingly designed interior
- - Hall B: Multi-Hall, adaptable from theatre-style seating to flat-floor formats
In addition, we are excited to announce a comprehensive renovation of our official website:
Tomakomai Citizen Cultural Hall Art Cubes. The refreshed website now offers a wealth of information about the venue and its various spaces.
Purpose and Vision
The cultural hall embodies the ethos of being a third space for the community, where people of all ages can freely converge. The core philosophy is encapsulated in the tagline:
'To Melt, Connect, and Expand.' As part of Tomakomai City’s strategy for a 'walkable town,' the hall aims to invigorate the local cultural scene, fostering a vibrant atmosphere full of artistic expression.
Facilities
Planned highlights of the 'Art Cubes' include:
- - Grand Hall
- - Multi-Hall
