Rehlko Doubles Annual Backup Power Capacity at Changzhou Facility to Meet Growing Demand

Rehlko Expands Backup Power Production

Rehlko, a leading global player in industrial energy resilience, is making a major leap in its operational capacity. With a bold investment plan, the company has announced the doubling of its backup power generation capacity at its manufacturing facility in Changzhou, China, from 5.5 gigawatts (GW) to an impressive 11 GW. This move comes in response to the increasing demand driven by advancements in AI infrastructure, the expansion of data centers, and the ever-growing need for resilience in supply chains around the world.

Strategic Importance of the Changzhou Facility

The Changzhou factory plays a critical role in Rehlko's global production network. It specializes in manufacturing generator systems ranging from 6 kW to 4,000 kW, alongside key components that enhance the company’s capabilities worldwide. By strategically positioning this facility, Rehlko not only mitigates supply chain bottlenecks but also strengthens global operational resilience, serving clients in regions like China, Southeast Asia, EMEA, and Latin America.

Brian Melka, Rehlko’s President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, “Our ongoing investments in Changzhou reflect the discipline behind our growth; we are doubling capacity while also enhancing the speed and precision of our system deliveries.” This forward-thinking approach allows Rehlko to effectively cater to clients across Asia and beyond.

Recent Upgrades and Innovations

Recent enhancements at the Changzhou facility highlight Rehlko’s commitment to innovation and efficiency. The implementation of a smart production line for smaller generator systems, introduction of an advanced smart warehouse system, and upgrades to production lines for medium and large generators showcase the company’s dedication to technological advancement. Additionally, the integration of automated guided vehicles and sophisticated production execution systems streamlines operations, setting a new industry standard.

These advancements have already yielded noticeable outcomes. Since 2020, shipping revenues from the Changzhou factory have doubled, with first-pass yield rates increasing from 93% to a remarkable 98%. The capacity increase from 5.5 GW to 11 GW underscores the cumulative impact of enhanced capacity, automation, and operational improvements implemented through this strategic investment.

Expanding Global Reach

The capacity expansion at the Changzhou site is part of Rehlko's broader global manufacturing strategy. Additional investments in their facilities located in Colmar and Cholet in France and Kenosha in the United States reinforce the company’s commitment to expanding operational capacity and capabilities. Notably, the acquisition of WB Power Services and Wiltech Acoustics in the UK in 2025 further solidifies Rehlko’s position as a leading manufacturer in the energy resilience sector.

Rehlko distinguishes itself through its vertically integrated capabilities covering the entire lifecycle—engineering, manufacturing, implementation, maintenance, and operation of backup, primary, continuous, and bridging power systems. This integrated model not only accelerates the time to power availability, it also fosters long-term customer relationships and service revenue streams.

A Legacy of Innovation

Founded over 100 years ago, Rehlko remains committed to meeting the evolving needs of critical infrastructure in an era characterized by instability in power grids and the electrification of various sectors. It has successfully installed over 14 GW of data center capacity, with more than 90% customized for specific applications. As the inventor of the world’s first generator powered by a combustion engine, Rehlko now operates in over 80 locations globally, blending scale with a targeted focus on powering the world’s critical infrastructure.
