Northwestern Mutual's Commitment to Affordable Housing
In a significant move to boost affordable housing, Northwestern Mutual has pledged over $3 million over the next three years, dedicated to constructing more than 90 homes in Milwaukee's Amani neighborhood. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader goal of creating 500 affordable homes across Milwaukee by 2030, in partnership with local non-profit organizations.
Steve Radke, president of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, emphasized the company's deep-rooted connection to Milwaukee over its 168-year history. He stated, "Ensuring our city thrives remains at the core of our mission," highlighting their commitment to revitalizing neighborhoods through substantial investments. By funding more homes in Amani and also investing in Metcalfe Park and Muskego Way, Northwestern Mutual strives to strengthen the very fabric of Milwaukee communities while promoting homeownership.
The significance of homeownership in the United States is well-documented; it serves as a primary source of wealth for families. Despite this, Amani faces challenges, with more than 64% of its homes built before 1940 and only 32% of residents currently owning their homes.
