73rd SBI Art Auction: Modern and Contemporary Art

SBI Art Auction Co., Ltd., headquartered in Koto, Tokyo and led by CEO Tomohiro Fujiyama, is set to host the 73rd SBI Art Auction from July 12 to 13, 2025 at the Hillside Forum in Daikanyama. This event promises a vibrant display of artworks that will ignite both visual and emotional responses as summer approaches.

The auction will feature a diverse array of works, primarily focusing on modern and contemporary art from the 20th century onwards. Esteemed artists internationally recognized alongside emerging talents will be showcased, transcending genres and eras. Visitors can expect to encounter abstract paintings that resonate on the international art stage, poetic figurative representations, and three-dimensional works that highlight the intrinsic allure of materials. Each piece offers a unique perspective on the world, stimulating the imagination of observers.

Highlighted pieces include Andy Warhol's renowned work "CHANEL, from Ads (F. & S. II.354)," a part of his iconic advertisement series, known for its rare circulation in Japan. This pop art masterpiece features a striking combination of vibrant colors and refined hues, creating a serene yet captivating visual experience. Another feature is "Pelvis" by Kei Nimizu, which is bound to draw attention. The work showcases an immense pelvis adorned with a variety of creatures, evoking ancient sculptures through its mixed media expression and impactful composition.

Innovative pieces from the after-war period in Japanese art will also grace the auction floor, including "Peony" by Matazo Kayama. This captivating artwork incorporates Western painting techniques from Hawaiian cave paintings and artists like Rousseau and Picasso, bringing contemporary reconstruction to traditional Japanese art. Meanwhile, Hiroshi Nakamura, known for his descriptive reportage painting style, will present "Field Training," reflecting political and social themes with a provocative artistic force.

As vibrant colors and unique personalities intersect, the event will also include tranquil hues and works carrying sharp social significance. Visitors will experience the rich diversity and depth of contemporary art—be it pop art intertwining with urban memory, serene forms that touch upon spirituality, or reinterpretations of imagery in the digital age.
