An Exciting Partnership for Commercial Space Travel
Future Space Transportation Company, headquartered in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, led by CEO Kojiro Hatada, has always envisioned a world where people and goods can be delivered through space. They have embarked on a mission to create a transport system that allows for space travel, setting the stage for a new era in tourism.
Recently, Future Space Transportation Company entered into a significant partnership with Japan Travel, based in Minato Ward, Tokyo, under the leadership of CEO Keigo Yoshida. This collaboration aims to build on their earlier agreement established in September 2024, focusing on making space tourism accessible to everyone.
Objectives of the Partnership
The new agreement underscores a shared ambition: to advance their initial concepts of space tourism and to establish a robust system for selling, operating, and designing customer experiences for commercial space travel. The partnership seeks to extend the notion of space travel beyond merely being a 'special experience' and transform it into an opportunity for learning, connecting with local communities, and enriching society.
Both companies intend to utilize their expertise and networks to comprehensively explore various service designs, educational partnerships, and local tourism development. Future Space Transportation will provide advice and oversight from a transport system development perspective, while Japan Travel will act as the principal agency responsible for defining customer experiences and product development related to space tourism.
Long-Term Vision for Space Travel
Future Space Transportation envisions a long-term strategy that evolves the concept of space travel through three defined stages:
1.
SPACE Tour 1.0: Immersive experiences on earth that simulate space experiences, such as space food tasting, educational programs, and tours to relevant facilities.
2.
SPACE Tour 2.0: A next-generation transportation mode that connects two locations on earth in under 60 minutes using a space route.
3.
SPACE Tour 3.0: Experiences involving stays in orbit, allowing customers to escape Earth and spend time in outer space.
Key Initiatives
The collaboration will focus on several key areas:
- - Commercialization of Space Travel Services: Developing products and initiating applications with Japan Travel as the sole agency. This includes the creation of educational and workforce development programs (SPACE Tour 1.0).
- - Enhancing the Space Travel Experience: Designing next-generation space food and related experiences while incorporating customer feedback into the onboard user experience.
- - Joint Promotion at Events: Engaging in PR activities at both domestic and international space-related events, while expanding public access to space travel experiences.
Launch Timeline for Space Travel Applications
With this new partnership, the firms are poised to transition from the conceptual phase of space travel services to the proof-of-concept and commercialization phases. They aim to formalize a structure that anticipates accepting applications for SPACE Tour 2.0 and 3.0 by the fiscal year 2026. Further details regarding application processes will be announced in the future.
