REMADE® Launches Request for Proposals on New York State Waste Tire Program
The REMADE Institute®, a pivotal entity within the Sustainable Manufacturing Innovation Alliance Corp., has rolled out a significant Request for Proposals (RFP) intending to enhance the management of waste tires in New York State. Announced on September 30, 2025, this initiative is a key component of the ongoing New York State Waste Tire Program, which seeks innovative approaches to increase the reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling of end-of-life tires (ELT).
This RFP represents an opportunity for industry professionals, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions to submit their proposals for technology development and demonstration projects aimed at transforming old tires into valuable resources. The proposals are due by November 17, 2025, and must include collaboration with a New York State partner that can provide the source of ELT materials.
Objective of the RFP
The call for proposals is focused on two main project types: 1)
Technology Development Projects and 2)
Technology Demonstration Projects. Development projects require comprehensive research to validate technology efficacy and performance, while demonstration projects involve fully developed technologies tested in pre-commercial trials to assess their viability and market potential.
The RFP seeks innovative technology solutions to various applications, including but not limited to:
- - Alternative uses for whole or shredded tires
- - Markets for tire-derived fuel and crumb rubber
- - Cost-reduction technologies for tire retreading
- - Advanced methods to analyze the remaining life of used tires
- - Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to optimize processes for turning ELT into market-ready products.
Advantages of Participation
Participating in this RFP offers numerous advantages. Organizations can contribute to state-wide sustainability goals while potentially opening new revenue streams from recycled tire products. The REMADE Institute has a track record of investing nearly $100 million in research and development, which emphasizes its commitment to not only the environment but also innovation in manufacturing technologies. This funding focuses on materials recovery, optimized manufacturing processes, and enhanced U.S. manufacturing competitiveness, directly aligning with the aims of the Waste Tire Program.
Who Can Apply?
Responses to this RFP are welcome from various sectors — whether private industry, research institutions, or nonprofit entities. Importantly, while applicants are not required to be based in New York State, all project proposals need to partner with a New York-based entity to source the end-of-life tires.
Conclusion
As environmental concerns increase and sustainable practices become paramount in modern manufacturing, initiatives like the New York State Waste Tire Program spearheaded by the REMADE Institute highlight the essential role of collaboration across sectors. Those interested in participating are encouraged to review the full RFP details on the REMADE Institute’s website and submit their proposals ahead of the impending deadline. Through innovative research and collaboration, this program seeks to enhance the landscape of tire recycling and by extension, contribute positively to the environment and local economies in New York.
