Sankyu Expands Renewable Energy Utilization through On-Site Solar PPA and Circular Power Solutions

Expanding Renewable Energy Utilization

Recently, iGrid Solutions, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has published an interview article featuring Sankyu Inc., which is also based in Tokyo's Chuo Ward. This article explores how Sankyu, with numerous locations nationwide, is meeting various challenges related to facility conditions by implementing the "R.E.A.L. Solar Power" service and "R.E.A.L. Circular Power" to increase the adoption of renewable energy (RE).

Circular Power for Facilities without Solar Panels

The Sankyu Group aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 42% from 2020 levels by 2030 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. One method they have adopted is the on-site solar PPA, "R.E.A.L. Solar Power," provided by iGrid. This solution allows them to utilize their facilities' rooftops effectively for solar energy generation without the burden of initial capital investment. By implementing this system at their Yokohama Logistics Center, Sankyu has successfully reduced approximately 95 tons of CO₂ annually.

However, as they have numerous locations, some facilities have structural constraints that prevent the installation of solar panels. To address this, they have utilized the "R.E.A.L. Circular Power," which uses surplus electricity generated at their facilities. For instance, in the case of their Kashima branch, three facilities were able to achieve a 100% renewable energy usage rate and an annual CO₂ reduction of approximately 301 tons, despite being unable to install solar panels due to building structure limitations. By combining the on-site solar PPA with circular power, Sankyu aims to capitalize on renewable energy produced within the group, thereby advancing their decarbonization efforts.

Supporting Energy Utilization Based on Facility-Specific Challenges

iGrid does not stop at just implementing on-site solar PPAs; they also provide support in expanding renewable energy utilization options according to specific facility conditions and challenges. Sankyu values the flexible proposals that combine energy generation with electricity supply, especially for facilities that cannot accommodate solar panels.

As they move forward, iGrid is committed to providing continuous value as a GX partner, working alongside companies to expand renewable energy utilization according to their facility conditions and challenges.

About Sankyu Inc.

Founded in 1918, Sankyu's purpose is, “To express gratitude to the world’s industry.” They operate in two main areas: Plant Engineering (Machinery) and Logistics, vital for supporting manufacturing processes. With many locations domestically and internationally, they cater to a broad range of fields, including logistics, site operations, and facility maintenance.

About R.E.A.L. Solar Power

"R.E.A.L. Solar Power" is an on-site solar PPA service offered by iGrid, enabling customers to install solar power facilities on their rooftops and premises while keeping initial investment to a minimum. Through their unique AI platform, "R.E.A.L. New Energy Platform," iGrid visualizes the power generation status post-installation and manages operations robustly, aiding customers in their decarbonization and energy cost optimization efforts.

About R.E.A.L. Circular Power

"R.E.A.L. Circular Power" is iGrid's proprietary decarbonization solution that circulates surplus renewable energy generated at facilities with on-site PPA agreements to other facilities. By networking the surplus renewable energy produced across the country through their on-site solar PPA, facilities that cannot host solar installations can still utilize solar-derived renewable energy. This promotes broader renewable energy utilization across the company.

About iGrid Solutions

iGrid is a platform focused on promoting decentralized renewable energy through the fusion of physical and digital technologies across Japan. They operate a GX solution business that maximizes the renewable energy self-sufficiency rates of companies and municipalities and engage in energy trading by circulating and supplying surplus renewable energy. As of the end of July 2026, they have developed a cumulative 1,511 facilities with a generation capacity of approximately 395 MW, contributing to a decarbonized society. With the slogan "Faster than Change," iGrid aims to realize a sustainable world where green energy circulates in communities.
