Star Gold Corp. Develops Longstreet Project with New Water Rights Lease
Star Gold Corp. has made a significant advancement in the development of its Longstreet Gold Project by securing a long-term lease for important water rights. This milestone is pivotal for the company's ambitions in the Walker Lane Belt region of Nevada, located about 57 miles northeast of Tonopah. With a total of 2,471 acre-feet of water rights now leased, Star Gold positions itself not just for its current operational plans but for future growth as well.
The leasing of these water rights is key to the company's heap leaching operations, which are essential for extracting valuable metals from ore. Preliminary analysis indicates that the project anticipates an annual water consumption of around 600 acre-feet annually, factoring in a conservative dry-year scenario. To ensure ample supply, the lease covers a commitment that is over three times this estimated requirement, providing a comfortable buffer for the operational demands expected both now and as additional resources are confirmed.
Lindsay Gorrill, the CEO of Star Gold, emphasized the importance of securing these water rights, stating, "Water rights in Nevada are hard assets, and they are getting harder to secure every year. Locking in a long-term lease at this volume does two things for our shareholders: it derisks Longstreet, and it provides room to grow." By addressing the water needs not just for immediate plans but also for the anticipated future expansion, the company sets a solid foundation for its project's trajectory.
This proactive approach ensures that the project can navigate through challenging conditions without a halt in operations. With a detailed environmental assessment slated to follow, the availability of water will allow Star Gold to advance its engineering designs based on firm assumptions, enhancing the efficiency of project management across various sectors from design to permitting.
Reinis Sipols, the Director of Project Management, noted the significance of this step, saying, "Water availability is a critical input influencing various engineering decisions on a heap leach project. Having secured this supply allows us to eliminate uncertainties related to our operations and advance our design work seamlessly."
In conclusion, Star Gold Corp is not only reinforcing its current operations through the lease of water rights, but it is also paving the way for foundational growth and development. The Longstreet Gold Project, which spans approximately 2,600 acres and encompasses a mining potential rich in precious metals, stands to benefit greatly from this strategic decision. As the company moves closer to full-scale production, its commitment to sustainable and responsible exploration remains a primary objective, ensuring that both the environment and stakeholders are considered in the development process.
