SCAD and Atlanta Team Up for an Unforgettable FIFA World Cup Experience
SCAD Collaborates with FIFA World Cup 26™ Atlanta
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has entered into a groundbreaking alliance with the FIFA World Cup 26™ Atlanta Host Committee (AWCHC), the Metro Atlanta Chamber, and other local organizations to elevate the FIFA World Cup 2026 experience in Atlanta to unprecedented levels. This partnership encompasses a range of initiatives designed to showcase the city’s culture as it welcomes soccer fans from all over the globe.
Enhancing Visitor Experience
As a prelude to the event, SCAD is deploying over 200 students and alumni in various projects that fuse art and technology. These include an innovative wayfinding campaign, art installations, and a comprehensive social media strategy, ensuring guests can navigate around and enjoy the matches seamlessly.
The Last Mile Campaign
One of the standout projects is the 'Last Mile' initiative. This campaign aims to direct participants towards Atlanta’s stadium through visually striking graphics, signage, and digital elements. This project signifies SCAD's commitment to merge innovative design with practical solutions, ensuring that visitors find the stadium easily while enjoying the artistic expressions along the way.
Dan Corso, the president of Atlanta Sports Council and the AWCHC, emphasized the uniqueness of this collaboration, stating, "SCAD brings creativity and local teamwork that reflect the vibrant spirit of Atlanta. Our partnership aims to enhance the fan experience by showcasing the next generation of creative talent."
Artistic Installations in the City
The collaboration also results in various art installations scattered throughout the downtown area, promoting interactivity and engagement among fans and visitors. Among these is a mural titled _Work and Play_ by Alejandro Giraldo, located at the Georgia World Congress Center, which aims to invigorate the surrounding area through art.
In addition to murals, student-designed installations, such as a massive wall depicting 116 soccer balls that create the word "ATL," offer an ideal backdrop for fan photographs and social media shares.
Social Media Strategy
The unique social media campaigns, led by SCAD students, will manage content for the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s platforms. This will enable real-time engagement with fans and create a buzz around the World Cup events, making sure everyone feels included in the excitement.
Further Community Engagement
Additionally, SCAD is involved in numerous public art projects in collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and local developers. These commissions seek to honor Atlanta's cultural identity through vibrant murals and public installations that resonate with both the city’s history and its artistic ambitions.
Looking Ahead
With over 500,000 visitors expected to descend upon Atlanta for eight matches, including a semifinal, this partnership positions Atlanta as a noteworthy host city not just for the World Cup but also for arts and culture. Atlanta joins rare company as only the second U.S. city, alongside Los Angeles, to have hosted both the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.
SCAD's contributions will leave a lasting impact, enhancing the visitor experience while celebrating the city’s diversity and creative spirit. The university's initiatives will likely resonate long after the final match is played, reinforcing Atlanta's status as a cultural and artistic hub.
The collaborative efforts highlight SCAD's ability to bring artistry and innovation together, which not only celebrates local talent but also enhances the global spotlight on Atlanta as it prepares to make history once more during the FIFA World Cup 2026. For anyone interested in engaging with this spectacle, SCAD has also created an interactive map that details all art installations, initiatives, and significant tourist attractions in the area, ensuring that every visitor's experience is memorable and immersive.
