IDnow Receives Certification for Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes, Improving Digital Identity Services
IDnow Receives Certification for Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes
In a significant development for digital identity services, IDnow Trust Services AB has achieved certification to issue Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes (QEAAs). This marks a substantial enhancement of their portfolio, designed to meet stringent regulatory standards under the EU's eIDAS directive and Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR).
IDnow's certification enables companies to securely utilize verified customer attributes essential for compliance with recent regulatory requirements that mandate comprehensive customer information verification. These attributes can include vital details such as an individual's address, tax identification number, and professional qualifications.
What Are QEAAs?
QEAAs are electronic proofs recognized across the European Union, serving as digital attestations for specific personal or organizational attributes. Unlike traditional paper documents, these digital attestations can be verified instantly and are machine-readable, providing a more efficient solution for businesses needing to comply with various identification and verification requirements.
The Need for Verifiable Attributes
The certification comes in response to increasing calls for verified attributes as new rules demand that obligated entities gather and verify a multitude of customer information by July 10, 2027. While some national electronic ID systems and EU Digital Identity Wallets may not encompass all necessary identification metrics, IDnow's solution addresses this gap by offering reliable methods for businesses to verify key customer attributes digitally.
To ensure compliance, IDnow integrates identity verification, attribute validation, and the issuance of QEAAs into a seamless, traceable process. Each attribute is cross-referenced with authentic or officially recognized sources before being issued through IDnow Trust Services.
Regulatory Compliance and Infrastructure Needs
According to Johannes Leser, Managing Director at IDnow Trust Services, the AMLR highlights the necessity for businesses not only to know their customers but also to reliably prove their identities with specific information. However, the current identity infrastructure in Europe does not provide adequate coverage to fulfill these needs.
"With our QEAA certification, we are equipping businesses with a legally acceptable and verifiable solution to meet regulatory needs without relying on the EU Digital Wallet's timely availability, which is subject to fixed regulatory deadlines," says Leser.
Successful Certification Process
IDnow underwent a thorough conformity assessment process to gain this certification, assessing both their underlying processes as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) and the QEAA service itself. This evaluation included aspects such as attribute verification, technical issuance, lifecycle management, and IT security according to ETSI standards. Notably, this process was completed without any non-conformities, showcasing IDnow's commitment to maintaining high standards in their service delivery.
The conformity assessment report has been submitted to the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS), which is responsible for deciding the issuance of qualified status and inclusion in the EU Trust List.
