IDnow Receives Certification for Issuing Qualified Electronic Attestations Essential for European Compliance
IDnow Gains Certification for Issuing QEAAs
In a significant move for digital identity solutions, IDnow, the leading European firm in digital identity and fraud prevention, has successfully received certification to issue Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes (QEAAs). This important development is not only a boost for IDnow but also addresses crucial compliance needs within the European regulatory landscape.
On August 21, 2026, IDnow announced that its trust service provider, IDnow Trust Services AB, was granted the necessary credentials to provide these digital attestations. This certification comes after an extensive evaluation process which included thorough audits and examination of the company's procedures as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP). The assessment confirmed IDnow's adherence to the rigorous standards set by ETSI EN 319 401 and ETSI TS 119 471, focusing particularly on the verification of attributes, their technical issuance, lifecycle management, and cybersecurity. Notably, the evaluation found no non-conformities, a testament to IDnow's strong compliance framework.
QEAAs serve as a legally recognized means under the eIDAS 2.0 framework for organizations to validate specific client information, such as residency addresses and identification numbers. Unlike traditional paper certificates, which can be cumbersome and easily falsified, QEAAs are secure, immediately verifiable, and can be reused across various frameworks. IDnow plans to integrate these attestations into existing onboarding processes or issue them through the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet), streamlining identification protocols for organizations across Europe.
Filling the AML Gap
The timing of this certification couldn't be more crucial. Financial institutions across Europe are gearing up for the implementation of the new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), which will require firms to collect and verify an extensive range of attributes and information from their clients by July 10, 2027. Many current national electronic identification systems and EUDI wallets do not reliably provide all the necessary attributes demanded for Personal Identification Data (PID), leaving organizations potentially struggling to meet their compliance obligations.
IDnow's QEAA service is ideally positioned to bridge this gap, uniting identity verification, attribute validation, and issuing of QEAAs within a single trust chain. IDnow verifies attributes from authoritative sources and directly issues QEAAs via its QTSP, ensuring a cohesive compliance process.
