Celebrate the New Year with Galette des Rois
The Galette des Rois, a beloved traditional French pastry, is an essential part of New Year celebrations. This year, renowned patissier Sébastien Bouillet introduces a special edition that embodies the theme of travel or 'Voyage'. Available for pre-order at select locations, this delightful treat is sure to make your celebrations memorable.
What is Galette des Rois?
Translating to 'King's Cake', Galette des Rois is particularly popular in France around January 6, the feast of the Epiphany. During this time, patisseries and bakeries across the country showcase their own versions of this iconic cake. Hidden within the cake is a charming figurine called a feve, traditionally made from a dried bean but now crafted from porcelain. The person who finds the feve becomes the king or queen for the day, crowned with a paper crown and celebrated by all.
A Unique Twist from Sébastien Bouillet
What sets Sébastien Bouillet's Galette apart is the meticulous preparation and selection of ingredients. Each cake is made with a flaky pastry dough that incorporates French butter, expertly layered with fermented French butter for a light, crispy texture. The result is a perfectly baked galette that not only smells divine but also retains its crunchiness even as time passes.
As a finishing touch, a syrup glaze is applied to the top of the galette right after baking, creating a stunning sheen and a delightful crackling texture when you cut into it.
