Exploring Daily Life Tools at Zushiya Ginza's New Exhibition

Zushiya Ginza's Innovative Exhibition: Celebrating Daily Living

Zushiya Ginza, known for its intricately crafted Buddhist altars and related items, is hosting its tenth exhibition since its recent renewal. The latest exhibition titled "Tools for Daily Life from the Eyes and Hands of Eguchi-Do" runs until May 10. This exhibit marks a distinct shift from previous artist-focused exhibitions, embracing a thematic exploration of everyday life.

A New Chapter at Zushiya Ginza

In October 2024, Zushiya Ginza reopened its doors with a newly designed shop on the first floor aimed at helping visitors discover their unique prayer styles. Over the years, the establishment has collaborated with numerous artisans to offer contemporary interpretations of prayer. With the tenth exhibition serving as a milestone, Zushiya Ginza is excited to spotlight Eguchi-Do, renowned for its aesthetic sensibility and craftsmanship.

Eguchi-Do has spent years traveling to various workshops and manufacturers, curating tools that seamlessly integrate into daily life. This exhibition shifts the focus from prayer-specific items to an array of beautiful objects that enhance common settings like dining tables and living rooms. By showcasing these selections within the unique atmosphere of Zushiya, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on beauty in the mundane.

The Artistry Behind Eguchi-Do

Founded by a buyer with over two decades in publishing and an architect, Eguchi-Do has established itself by selecting lifestyle tools that resonate with the essence of living spaces. The duo behind Eguchi-Do visits manufacturers and artisans across the country, handpicking pieces that transform daily routines. Their expertise translates into practical yet artistically pleasing tools that evolve with time, becoming a natural part of one’s life.

An Insightful Interview with Ruichi Eguchi

Ruichi Eguchi, one half of the Eguchi-Do team, previously worked for over twenty years with major publishing houses. His extensive experience in editing and buying led him to gain invaluable insights from producers and craftspersons nationwide. In spring 2024, he took a bold step to launch "Eguchi-Do: A Place for Finding Life and Tools," where he continues to share his passion for lifestyle tools that embody warmth and craftsmanship.

Ruichi’s Thoughts on the Exhibition:
“Whether it’s a crafted art piece or a daily tool, every item holds not only functionality but also ingenuity and the unique beauty tied to its design. Throughout my travels, I aim to straddle the boundaries between artisan craftsmanship and everyday life essentials. At Eguchi-Do, we value the intertwining sentiments of the makers and users, allowing individuals to adapt these tools into their lives. We want our pieces to become your own, quietly enhancing the beauty of your daily scenes.”
