FANCL and Saboten Join Forces Again with New Kale Drink This Summer

FANCL x Saboten: A Unique Kale Drink

The renowned collaboration between FANCL and Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten returns this year, bringing a refreshing twist to summer. From July 1, 2026, visitors to any Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten restaurant across the nation can enjoy the sixth installment of their collaborative drink menu. This year, the focus is on health with a drink made from FANCL's high-quality, 100% Japanese kale.

Celebrated for its rich nutritional profile, kale is often referred to as the ‘king of vegetables’. This limited-time menu will feature two primary drinks: the Kale Green Beer and Kale Lemon Sour. For those who prefer a non-alcoholic option, there will also be fresh juices available that include apple, orange, and lemon flavors—all infused with the goodness of kale.

New Takes on Classic Combinations

The craft behind the Kale Lemon Sour is noteworthy. Designed to pair perfectly with Saboten's signature Tonkatsu, this original drink combines the crispness of kale with the zesty brightness of lemon, creating a refreshing experience. The drink is sugar-free, allowing the natural tartness of lemon to shine through, while the kale adds a rich, earthy undertone.

On the alcohol side, the Kale Green Beer presents a new avenue for customers to enhance their dining experience. Priced at 825 yen (tax included), this beverage uses the same 100% Japanese kale, capturing flavors that resonate well with Saboten’s famous deep-fried dishes.

A Legacy of Healthy Eating

Since its founding in 1966, Saboten has valued the art of dining by encouraging patrons to start their meals with fresh, crunchy cabbage to minimize oil absorption—a practice that has garnered them a loyal customer base. This collaboration with FANCL aims to meet the growing demand for healthy eating options by incorporating a daily serving of seasonal greens. The kale drink includes 120g of fresh kale leaves, which is often lacking in the diets of many Japanese individuals.

Tanaka Rei, a nutritionist from Green House Foods, shared insights into kale's health benefits: "Kale is on par with or better than many other vegetables in terms of vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids. We wanted to create a drink that not only pairs well with Saboten’s Tonkatsu but also delivers an easy and tasty way to increase vegetable intake."
