Special Exhibition of Mie Prefecture's Traditional Industries
Mie Prefecture, represented by Governor Katsuyuki Ikken, is participating in the Osaka-Kansai EXPO with its booth located in the Kansai Pavilion. This year's theme, "The Origin of Japan's Spirit: A Timeless Journey to Beautiful Country Mie," highlights the prefecture's rich history, culture, nature, and cuisine. Starting from August 25, a limited-time special exhibition titled "Traditional Industries of Mie" will be on display, revealing the deep-rooted craftsmanship that defines the region.
Exhibition Overview

- - Content: The exhibition will feature several nationally designated traditional crafts from Mie, including "Iga Kumihimo" and "Yokkaichi Banko." Visitors can also see works created by Living National Treasures of Mie, along with visuals showcasing the automotive and semiconductor industries.
Additionally, from September 2 to September 8, a special event called "Beautiful Country Colorful Mie Bazaar" will be held in the multipurpose hall next to the Kansai Pavilion, offering visitors a taste of Mie's culinary delights, local products, and tourism promotions. Various municipalities and businesses from Mie will come together to showcase the region's attractions. On September 8, an event to promote Mie’s hot springs will take place, featuring foot-bathing experiences (from Yunoyama and Sakakibara) and stage performances.
Special Pop-Up Locations in Osaka
In line with the EXPO, Mie Prefecture will set up six temporary information hubs under the banner "Mie Terrace in Osaka." These spots will showcase local gourmet food, products, and tourism information, providing a feast of activities for children and adults alike.

- - Content: During this period, a digital stamp rally will take place across ten spots. Participants will earn points by collecting stamps from nine locations in the Ise-Shima area (1 point per stamp) and the Mie booth (3 points per stamp). Collecting nine points enters participants into a lottery for fabulous prizes, including Ise-Shima souvenirs.
Traditional Crafts of Mie
Mie's traditional industries are a key aspect of the region's identity, woven into the fabric of daily life and history. The renowned crafts designated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry include Iga Kumihimo, Yokkaichi Banko, Suzuka Sumi, Iga-yaki, and Ise Katagami.

Iga Kumihimo: Originating before the Nara period, this delicate braiding technique uses silk threads and metallic fibers, celebrated as an essential element in traditional Japanese attire.
