Survey Reveals Seniors' Expectations for Real Estate Services in Japan

Understanding the Needs of Seniors in Real Estate Services

Recently, ieloveGROUP, a real estate tech firm based in Tokyo, conducted a survey focusing on the needs of seniors when it comes to real estate services. With 757 responses received, the survey aimed to shed light on what elderly clients look for to feel secure in their housing choices.

Background of the Survey

As Japan's population ages, it has become increasingly important for real estate services to cater specifically to the needs of older adults. This demographic not only seeks secure living arrangements, but they also value the clarity and constancy of support they receive during the home selection process. The findings of this survey reveal that the ability to understand contract information, accessibility during property viewings, and overall customer service are key factors influencing their decisions.

Key Findings

The survey posed the question, "What services do you consider important when looking for a real estate agency?" The results shown an overwhelming preference for "quick response to inquiries" from 34.1% of respondents. This was followed by a need for "polite face-to-face communication" (20.3%) and a desire for "clear explanations of contracts and essential documents" (17.2%).

Interestingly, the need for a quick response could be facilitated by utilizing AI in customer service interactions, allowing real estate agents to respond swiftly to queries while maintaining efficiency. However, the demand for face-to-face interactions is evident, particularly among seniors who often prefer in-person consultations for comfort and understanding.

When asked about challenges that arise due to aging, respondents cited "understanding contracts and documents" as the most significant concern (22.8%), closely followed by "limitations in contract conditions and guarantees" (21.5%) and "mobility concerns during property viewings or visits to the office" (19.5%). This demonstrates a distinct consistency in the challenges faced by this demographic, indicating that these issues resonate with many seniors.

Inquiring about what seniors hope to see in improved real estate services, 24.4% emphasized the importance of "ongoing plans and guarantee support," followed by 22.1% who wished for assistance during viewings and help accommodating mobility issues. This was further supported by a growing list of real estate companies recognized for their robust services catering to the elderly. These insights suggest that comprehensive ongoing support, including a secure environment for property viewings, is highly sought after and can significantly impact the satisfaction of senior clients.

Expert Opinion

Kenichi Niwayama, the Executive Director at ieloveGROUP, remarked that the results from this survey underscore the increasing significance of the real estate industry's role in assisting older adults. He emphasized that selecting a home today involves more than just evaluating the property itself; it requires a supportive system that ensures peace of mind long after the move-in date.
