The History of Champagne Celebrations in F1

Moët & Chandon has been the official champagne of Formula 1 since 2025, marking the beginning of a new ten-year partnership. During the podium ceremonies, winning drivers are presented with a special Jeroboam bottle (3000ml) of Moët & Chandon, leading to the iconic champagne spray celebrations that symbolize victory in motorsport. This tradition, which captures the spirit of celebration and shared joy, has become an integral part of the F1 experience.

The history of Moët & Chandon in motorsports dates back to 1936, when Tazio Nuvolari celebrated his victory at the Vanderbilt Cup with a Jeroboam of Moët & Chandon. This marked the iconic beginning of champagne celebrations in motorsport. In 1967, Dan Gurney famously sprayed champagne over the crowd at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, cementing the tradition of the champagne fight that continues to this day in F1 events.
