Jeff Graham's Retirement Marks New Era for Adena Health Leadership

Adena Health President Jeff Graham to Retire in 2025

In a significant transition for Adena Health, President and CEO Jeff Graham has announced his retirement effective September 30, 2025. Graham, who has been at the helm since 2017 and with the organization since 1999, has been instrumental in the substantial growth and transformation of Adena Health, providing care to over 368,000 residents in Ohio's southern region.

The Board of Trustees has unanimously appointed Katherine Edrington, the current Chief Operating Officer, to succeed Graham starting October 1, 2025. This decision follows a nationwide executive search and reflects the board's confidence in Edrington's ability to continue the organization's mission.

Graham's Legacy

Jeff Graham's tenure is characterized by remarkable achievements that have reshaped the Adena Health landscape. Under his leadership, the organization has

  • - Doubled in size through the expansion of services and locations.
  • - Established the Adena Medical Group as a robust multi-specialty provider network featuring over 30 specialties.
  • - Spearheaded significant regional growth initiatives, including the addition of the Adena Fayette Medical Center and the creation of the Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute.
  • - Fostered valuable partnerships with local schools and agencies focused on enhancing community health.

Steve Hirsch, chairperson of the Adena Board of Trustees, praised Graham's leadership, emphasizing how his efforts have strengthened the organization amid challenges faced by rural healthcare systems nationwide. "Jeff's unwavering commitment ensures that our communities continue to receive essential healthcare services right in their neighborhoods," Hirsch remarked.

Transition to Edrington

As the organization prepares for Graham’s departure, Edrington’s selection was driven by her extensive experience within the organization and her proven track record of operational improvements. She has been with Adena for eight years and has led transformative initiatives, such as implementing a unified electronic medical record system that enhances patient care coordination.

Edrington has also played a pivotal role in strengthening Adena’s nursing program through strategic partnerships that enhance workforce opportunities. This initiative aims to retain top nursing talent, an essential aspect of providing high-quality care.

"Kathi is not only a capable leader but also embodies the compassion and purpose required to serve our communities effectively," said Bill Knoles, a Board member. Her operations and clinical expertise will be vital as Adena Health embarks on this new chapter after Graham’s departure.

Looking Ahead

Reflecting on this leadership transition, Hirsch expressed optimism for Adena's future. He remarked, "We are committed to preserving Adena's legacy while adapting to meet the needs of our patients. Kathi's vision will enable us to navigate the complexities of healthcare efficiently."

Adena Health, a not-for-profit healthcare system with over 3,300 employees, has continually prioritized its mission of delivering high-quality, compassionate care for more than 130 years. The organization operates four hospitals and offers various services, including orthopedics, women’s health, and emergency care.
