Izu Seven Islands Shipping Joins Tokyo's Decarbonization Initiative
The Izu Seven Islands Shipping Company, which belongs to the Tokai Kisen Group and is led by President Tadayuki Yamamoto, has officially joined the project aimed at promoting the commercialization of decarbonization fuels in Tokyo. This initiative, known as the "Decarbonization Fuel Utilization Promotion Support Project," is being supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for the Environment. It focuses on utilizing environmentally friendly biofuels in various forms of transport, including vehicles and vessels.
Supporting Eco-Friendly Innovation
Under this collaboration, Izu Seven Islands Shipping will leverage a unique biofuel supply scheme developed by NX Corporation, headed by President Susumu Aoki. This scheme includes the supply of a fuel blend, designated as B24, which comprises a mix of heavy oil (A heavy oil) and biodiesel (FAME – Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) that is aimed at vessels operating in and out of Tokyo Port. This strategic project involves several participating companies alongside Izu Seven Islands Shipping, including Maruai Ferry Co., Ltd. (led by Kazuaki Arimura), Nippon Shiokaisou Co., Ltd. (led by Koichi Amimoto), Fujii Petroleum Co., Ltd. (led by Masatoshi Fujii), Cosmo Oil Marketing Co., Ltd. (led by Naoki Takayama), and NX Shipping Co., Ltd. (led by Takekazu Morishita). All these companies will be utilizing the B24 biofuel blend in their vessels.
