ASRC Federal and ATCO Secure $596 Million for Alaska Radar Facility Operations
ASRC Federal and ATCO Team Up for Major Radar System Contract
Recently, ASRC Federal announced with great pride the award of a substantial 10-year contract worth $596 million, in partnership with ATCO through their joint venture known as ARCTEC Alaska. This contract is aimed at delivering full-service operations and maintenance for the Alaska Radar System (ARS), which holds a critical role within U.S. defense and aviation oversight.
Located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, this complex encompasses an impressive array of 15 remote long-range radar sites along with two additional radio sites across the vast Alaskan terrain. This base is not only the largest of its kind in the Pacific Air Force but also serves as a linchpin for monitoring airspace crucial to national security.
The origins of the Alaska Radar System date back to the Cold War era when it was first developed as an early warning mechanism for safeguarding American airspace. Today, the ARS continues to provide vital surveillance services to strategic commands, including the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the U.S. Northern Command. Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role in assisting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by sharing data pertinent to civilian aircraft operations.
With the execution of this contract, ARCTEC Alaska is set to employ specialized logistics and management techniques essential for ensuring optimal operations. This includes the provisioning of necessary equipment, supplies, and competent personnel dedicated to fulfilling mission requirements. Notably, ARCTEC has been actively involved in this program since its inception in 1994, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to excellence in service delivery.
Jennifer Felix, the President and CEO of ASRC Federal, expressed her enthusiasm about the new contract, stating, "The Alaska Radar System is critical to maintaining our sovereign air space, and we are proud to be entrusted with supporting the safety and security of our Nation." She emphasized that this follow-on contract is a testament to ASRC Federal's ability to deliver crucial operational services in complex environments consistently.
Jim Landon, President of ATCO Frontec, echoed Felix's sentiments, highlighting the company's unique capabilities to support the U.S. Air Force in Alaska. He remarked, "Our expertise in some of the most remote and challenging environments is why the USAF has trusted in our abilities for decades, enabling them to maintain continuous surveillance of our skies and safe navigation for civil flights across North America." His comments reflect the deep-rooted history of collaboration between ATCO and the U.S. military, fortified over decades.
ASRC Federal is a significant player in providing solutions and services to over 30 U.S. government entities. Their support spans a wide range of critical missions, including those involved in space exploration, cyber defense, military operations, and public health. Their extensive capabilities include IT modernization, engineering services, and logistical support, all aimed at ensuring robust national security.
As a prominent entity within Alaska’s business landscape, ASRC Federal is part of a family of companies owned by Alaska Natives. Their work is instrumental in securing a sustainable future for over 14,000 Iñupiaq shareholders hailing from the North Slope of Alaska.
In summary, the recent award of the ARS contract marks a pivotal moment for both ASRC Federal and ATCO. This collaboration not only upholds the safety and security standards expected of the U.S. military but also signifies a commitment to excellence in challenging operational environments. The established expertise and dedication of these organizations poised to continue enhancing national defense through innovative solutions and mission-critical support are commendable.
