Gunma's Agricultural Council Celebrates 10 Years with New Members and Vision 2035

Celebrating 10 Years of Gunma Agricultural Council: New Members and Future Vision

On April 29, Gunma's Agricultural Council, known as 'Megurunma,' marked its 10th anniversary with a significant meeting at the Takasaki Washington Hotel Plaza. In a celebratory atmosphere, the council approved the membership of three new organizations and presented their future vision, 'Megurunma 2035,' aimed at further enhancing direct agricultural connections within the region.

The Gunma Agricultural Council is a collaborative initiative formed by Palsystem Gunma, a local consumer cooperative, along with three key agricultural producers from the region: the Vegetable Club of Showamura, the Kurabuchi Grass Group from Takasaki, and the Tone River Producers Group from Isesaki City. Together, they promote understanding between consumers and producers, fostering a community centered on locally-sourced food.

During the meeting, representatives from 31 member organizations discussed six major proposals, including activity reports and future plans for the fiscal years 2025 and 2026. A highlight of the day was the election of a new president, Hiroyuki Wada from the Kurabuchi Grass Group, who will lead the council into the next decade.

Welcoming New Members and Expanding Networks

The council officially welcomes three new organizations as full members: East Tohoku Dairy Direct Sales Co., Ltd. from Ota city, Haruna Direct Sales Co., Ltd. from Takasaki city, and Premar Co., Ltd. from Maebashi city. East Tohoku Dairy and Haruna Direct Sales transitioned from supporting membership while Premar joined as a new member. This brings the total number of full members to eight, a significant increase that highlights the council's dedication to enriching its agricultural network, particularly in dairy and manufacturing sectors.

In addition to member expansion, the council is preparing for its 10th-anniversary celebration event on November 11, 2026. This milestone is not just a celebration, but an opportunity to reflect on the contributions and achievements of the council over the past decade.

Introducing the 'Megurunma 2035 Vision'

As part of the anniversary activities, the council introduced its 'Megurunma 2035 Vision’, a strategic outline designed to guide their efforts over the next ten years. The vision focuses on creating connections between food production and consumption, expanding networks with like-minded producers, and promoting food safety and local sourcing. This vision is divided into three main goals:

1. Connecting Food Production and Consumption: Megurunma aims to become a vibrant bridge between producers and consumers, creating joyful experiences around food.
2. Expanding the Network: A focus on attracting more producers and manufacturers into the fold to enhance food safety and quality throughout the region.
3. Passing on Values to Future Generations: Ensuring that the values and stories behind Megurunma products resonate with a broad audience, encouraging continued use in the years ahead.

The council emphasizes that the formulation of the Megurunma 2035 Vision reflects its commitment to agriculture, community, and sustainable practices. Through collaborative projects and exchanges among existing and new members, the council hopes to widely disseminate the values of local food culture and direct purchasing.

The Future of Food and Community

As Palsystem Gunma continues to work towards closing the gap between producers and consumers, the organization not only enhances local food systems but also champions sustainable agricultural practices. With a member base of over 51,000 and a robust financial structure, Palsystem Gunma remains dedicated to supporting local agriculture while ensuring that healthy, sustainable food is accessible to all.
