Alex Yang of Tuya Smart at the Summer Davos 2026

The Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC), commonly referred to as Summer Davos, took place from June 23 to June 25, 2026, at the Dalian International Conference Center in China. The event convened over 1,700 leaders and innovators from across more than 90 countries, all dedicated to discussing substantial shifts in economic growth driven by artificial intelligence, industrial digitization, and novel innovation models.

Alex Yang, co-founder, COO, and CFO of Tuya Smart, played a prominent role at the summit, participating in panels such as "China's Lobster Fever," "AI and Future Growth," and "Strategies to Stay Relevant in the Age of AI Agents." During these forums, he articulated the rapidly changing global AI landscape and the future of innovation on a grand scale.

New Phase of Global AI Innovation

The spotlight at Summer Davos was firmly on breakthroughs in foundational models and AI agents, indicating that artificial intelligence has ascended as a new arena for global technological competition. The rapid commercialization of AI technologies in China, along with their diverse applications, has drawn considerable attention from the international community. Discussions revolved around the limits of AI-first companies and the effects of increasingly autonomous AI agents operating across borders.

Among the key themes was the need for extensive adoption of AI tools. During the "China's Lobster Fever" session, Yang was joined by Cathy Li, Head of AI Excellence at the World Economic Forum, and Zhang Ying, Professor at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management, to explore what is driving China's swift innovation and adoption in AI.

Yang pointed out several mutually reinforcing advantages that contribute to China's capability for large-scale AI deployment. "First and foremost, the country boasts a large pool of developers actively engaged in the exploration and development of AI applications. Additionally, both individuals and organizations have shown remarkable openness to experimenting with new technologies. Overall, the nation's strong societal drive toward development and progress acts as a powerful intrinsic motor for innovation in AI," he explained.

At Tuya, Yang emphasized the company's mission to integrate AI into various real-world sector scenarios. He stated, "In the smart home sector, we are lowering the barriers to developing AI-native products through standardized AI modules and an active developer community. In the energy sector, our AI solutions span the entire energy cycle—from generation to transmission, storage, and consumption. By incorporating real-time and dynamic electricity pricing data from over 800 energy providers across Europe, our platform effectively optimizes energy consumption and helps users reduce overall energy costs."

As for the commercialization of AI, Yang observed a shift in the industry from traditional usage-based pricing models to results-oriented, value-based pricing. He remarked, "In this new era characterized by AI advancements, the companies that will emerge victorious are those not only quick to adopt AI technologies but also those that build AI-native organizations and skilled professionals."

Advocating for Global AI Applications through Open Developer Ecosystems

Throughout the Summer Davos, Yang also participated in interviews with major international media outlets, including CNBC, Bloomberg, and CGTN. He articulated his perspectives on the commercialization of AI applications, the development of the developer ecosystem, and the widespread implementation of AI hardware. He highlighted that in a time of rapid technological change and accelerating industrial transformations, open innovation is critical for maintaining long-term competitiveness.

Looking ahead, Tuya aims to enhance its focus on applications in AI for home automation, energy management, and robotics. The company plans to collaborate with developers and ecosystem partners worldwide to advance AI from technological breakthroughs to widespread deployment.
