Discovering Shigehiro Kadena's Artistry at CIBONE CASE
From April 4 to April 19, 2026, CIBONE CASE in Ginza will host the eighth solo exhibition of renowned woodworker
Shigehiro Kadena. Known for his soft and somewhat mysterious curves, Kadena's pieces are notable for their innovative construction—entirely free from nails or glue. Instead, they rely on embedded magnets to create engaging silhouettes, bringing a unique charm to his works.
Kadena's designs produce a captivating tension, almost as if they are floating, thanks to their delicate balance achieved through the interplay of gravity. Each piece showcases the innate beauty of hardwoods like walnut, maple, and cherry, emphasizing their natural colors, grains, and textures, all meticulously shaped by hand. The organic forms reveal the traces of carving and underscore the harmonious balance incorporated into each structure.
Since CIBONE CASE opened in 2017, Kadena has continued to present his works, with previous exhibitions titled
“non structure,” “Floating Arcs in the air,” “mother,” “eden,” and
“RAW POWER.” Each iteration explores new facets of structural design while evolving in shape to revolutionize how wood and magnetism interact.
This latest exhibition also promises an intricate look into the tactile nature of wood and the invisible force of magnetism that unifies Kadena's creations. Visitors can anticipate a selection of pieces that highlights the craftsmanship and the organic forms that characterize his artistic journey.
