Tricoci University of Beauty Culture's Rising Star
In an exceptional feat,
Jessena Fields, a dedicated cosmetology student at Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, has emerged as the
Best Overall Winner in the
National Student Stylist of the Year competition. This prestigious contest, hosted by
L'Oréal Professional Products and the
American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS), highlighted the outstanding talents of students from beauty schools nationwide.
A Competition of Creativity
Held in September 2026, this edition of the contest set a new record with over
200 entries from aspiring stylists all over the country. Jessena's award-winning creation was an editorial hairstyle inspired by the
Black Peacock, symbolizing creativity and confidence. Describing her experience, Jessena noted, "Just like a peacock eventually spreads its feathers, this competition gave me the opportunity to showcase what I knew I had inside all along."
Crafting her look over just four days, Jessena utilized innovative geometric braiding patterns, complemented by
Freetress braiding hair,
Redken Shades EQ, and strategically placed feathers. Such creativity not only secured her victory but also highlighted her unique artistry within the field.
The Mentor's Pride
Her mentor at Tricoci,
Daved Dolce, expressed immense pride in Jessena’s achievement. He stated, "Tricoci is incredibly proud to see Jessena shine on a national stage. She has embraced every opportunity to learn and grow, and this competition allowed her to showcase not only her technical skills but the creativity and individuality that make her such a promising artist."
Overcoming Challenges
Jessena's journey to this point is inspiring. Originally from
Georgia, she moved to
Libertyville to pursue her passion for cosmetology at Tricoci University, a decision motivated by her mother's influence as a former student. Jessena shared, "Tricoci has challenged me in the best way possible. I’ve been surrounded by educators, administrators, and classmates who genuinely want to see me succeed. They constantly push me to step outside my comfort zone, believe in my creativity, and strive to be better every day."
Her aspirations extend beyond immediate success. Jessena intends to continue her work in a salon after graduation, with dreams of educating fellow stylists, teaching techniques, and inspiring others in the beauty industry. Her drive and passion reveal her commitment to not just personal growth but also to uplifting others.
