Reju Unveils Site Selection for Groundbreaking Regeneration Hub in France's Lacq Area



Reju, the leading French textile regeneration firm, has officially announced the selection of Lacq in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region as the site for its new industrial-scale Regeneration Hub. This strategic move is set to mark a significant advancement in Europe's circular textile infrastructure. The facility is designed to convert post-consumer textile waste into high-quality recycled polyester, contributing to environmental sustainability and the circular economy.

Addressing a Global Challenge



Every year, a staggering 121 million tons of textiles are discarded worldwide, yet only 1% of these materials are recycled into new garments. The overwhelming majority ends up in landfills or is incinerated, posing severe environmental threats globally. Reju aims to mitigate this issue by developing innovative solutions that transform textile waste into viable materials for new products.

The establishment of this new Regeneration Hub will not only enhance France's global leadership in circular industrial innovation but also bolster the local economy. Powered by the engineering prowess of Technip Energies, Reju plans to introduce cutting-edge textile regeneration technology to the French industrial landscape. By utilizing Reju's patented depolymerization technology, the facility will process post-consumer textiles from national waste streams into rBHET, a regenerated feedstock used to produce new polyester. This will then be repolymerized to create high-quality PET for further use.

A Leap Towards Sustainability



This project is currently pending the final investment decision from the board of Technip Energies, Reju’s parent company. If greenlit, it will affirm France’s pioneering role in this emerging sector, paving the way for the establishment of a new local industry focused on sustainability and carbon footprint reduction. The facility is expected to create 80 direct jobs and over 300 indirect jobs, contributing significantly to local employment.

Building a Scalable Circular Infrastructure



Through its French Hub, Reju aspires to create a scalable circular infrastructure throughout France and Europe, enhancing textile traceability and closing the fiber usage cycle. This initiative complements Reju's existing operations, including the Zero Regeneration Hub in Frankfurt, their recently announced location in Chemelot, Netherlands, and a forthcoming site in Rochester, New York, United States.

Strategically positioned within TotalEnergies' Induslacq industrial platform, Reju’s efforts are buoyed by support from Chemparc, the state-backed development agency, as well as local authorities including the New Aquitaine Region. Audrey Le-Bars, the CEO of Chemparc, stated, "The selection of Lacq as the site for Reju’s first Regeneration Hub in France underscores the attractiveness of our industrial basin and highlights the role of our Public Interest Group as a catalyst for such projects. This decision marks a pivotal step in the advancement of a low-carbon circular economy."
