The Purpose of the Initiative

Japan's startup ecosystem currently faces challenges, particularly when comparing its growth in thriving unicorns to mature startup regions in Europe and the United States. As Japan battles a declining population and aging society, there is an urgent need to stimulate the market by creating innovative startups poised to drive significant economic changes. Consequently, GEMStartup TOKYO intends to foster an environment where latent ideas from established corporations can ignite new business startups, thereby contributing to the overall innovation landscape.

Program Overview

The program offers two main avenues for participation, both available at no cost (though participants must cover their own expenses related to the venture):
1. New Business Creation Platform
Designed for individuals interested in entrepreneurship or seeking connections and knowledge for launching new business initiatives. This series of around 15 sessions will cover everything needed for starting a business, from idea generation to business plan formulation. These sessions will take place in Tokyo and online, ensuring maximum accessibility.

2. Business Development Program
From the submissions received, approximately 20 participants will be selected to engage in this hands-on program. It includes lectures, workshops, pitch presentations, individualized mentoring sessions, and matchmaking with venture capitalists focused on nurturing business startups. This part of the GEMStartup initiative will ensure those selected receive expert guidance in their entrepreneurial journey.
