IDnow Receives Certification for QEAAs
IDnow, recognized as Europe's leading provider in digital identity and fraud prevention, recently achieved a significant milestone by securing certification to issue Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes (QEAAs). This certification addresses a crucial gap in compliance for organizations operating within the European Union.
What is a QEAA?
A Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes (QEAA) is a legally accepted credential that verifies specific individual or organizational attributes, such as residency, tax identification, or professional qualifications. Unlike traditional paper certificates, QEAAs are instantly verifiable, machine-readable, and reusable, making them an advanced solution for organizations seeking compliance with the European Union regulations regarding identity verification.
IDnow's Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP), IDnow Trust Services AB, led the charge toward this certification with a comprehensive assessment focused on the QEAA process. This rigorous review included onsite evaluations and scrutiny of IDnow's baseline processes, ensuring full adherence to the required ETSI EN 319 401 and ETSI TS 119 471 standards. The assessment underwent a zero non-conformities result, demonstrating IDnow's commitment to high standards.
Compliance in a Rapidly Changing Regulatory Landscape
The certification arrives at a critical time when financial institutions across Europe face stringent deadlines imposed by the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR). By July 10, 2027, these institutions must be able to collect and verify a wide array of customer credentials. However, many national eID systems and EUDI Wallets currently lack the capability to provide all necessary attributes consistently.
In response, IDnow's QEAA service stands ready to fill this void. By integrating identity verification, attribute proofing, and the issuance of QEAAs into a singular, accountable chain, IDnow ensures organizations can feasibly comply with AML regulations. Johannes Leser, Managing Director of IDnow Trust Services, emphasized that while AMLR requires organizations to identify their customers, it goes further by mandating proof of specific customer facts. The existing identity infrastructure across Europe is not uniformly equipped to meet these demands.
With the new QEAA certification, IDnow provides businesses a legally recognized and audit-ready means to verify critical customer attributes, mitigating the urgent need for compliance without delaying for EUDI Wallet timelines to align with regulatory requirements.
