A Revolutionary Leap in the Korean Financial Sector
Samsung Electronics has made a significant announcement on September 28, 2026, regarding the establishment of Korea's first private 5G smart office in partnership with SK Telecom and Hana Financial Group at their new headquarters in Incheon, South Korea. This innovative office environment promises to transform traditional wired networking conditions prevalent in the financial industry while ensuring compliance with strict security standards and enabling a flexible work environment.
The Hana Financial Group has developed a comprehensive smart office across 16 floors, serving multiple group companies and thousands of employees, thanks to this collaboration. Employees will be able to utilize 5G-compatible laptops, tablets, and mobile devices, enabling seamless access to their work environment regardless of their location. This robust communication network is designed to optimize office space utilization and enhance employee productivity while promoting a more agile and responsive way of working. Additionally, it reduces the significant time and cost associated with office layout changes and creates a foundation for integrating AI into everyday business processes.
Financial institutions handle highly confidential data, including customer credit information and bank account details, which necessitates conducting business in isolation from external networks due to stringent security concerns and cyberattack risks. Until now, the introduction of Wi-Fi networks had been virtually impossible in such environments. However, this project employs a multi-layer security system, integrating advanced encryption technologies, firewalls, DDoS protection, and a USIM-based authentication mechanism. Connectivity is granted exclusively to pre-approved devices and registered users, allowing organizations to maintain robust security while providing the benefits of wireless connectivity alongside equivalent independence to wired network environments.
Kim Goo-Young, Head of Enterprise Business at SK Telecom, stated, "For employees to leverage AI and data extensively in their daily operations, a network environment enabling safe and reliable access to corporate systems and data from anywhere is essential. The reliable environment provided by Samsung's core networking and wireless solutions establishes a smart office that exemplifies a transformation in the financial industry's work dynamics."
In this project, Samsung has delivered a full-stack network solution featuring a wireless device, baseband unit, and cloud-native core that supports Korea's mid-band private 5G frequency (4.7GHz). The 5G standalone (SA) core from Samsung enables 'network slicing' technology, allowing a single physical network infrastructure to be divided into multiple virtual slices, assigned for specific applications. With this implementation, group companies within Hana Financial Group can access dedicated network slices to establish independent operational environments tailored to their unique security policies and business requirements.
Angelo Jeongho Park, Vice President and Head of Network Business Strategy at Samsung Electronics, remarked on the significance of this achievement. He emphasized that it showcases Samsung's leadership in providing private 5G solutions that meet the highest security standards necessary for industries with stringent regulations. By combining cutting-edge technology with extensive commercial deployment experience across diverse sectors such as manufacturing, finance, construction, and IT, Samsung aims to deliver optimal and robust network environments, facilitating seamless AI-driven innovations in businesses.
Samsung has been at the forefront of the industry in delivering end-to-end 5G solutions that include chipsets, wireless devices, and core networks. The company continues to lead the evolution of 5G networks through ongoing research and development, paving the way for next-generation communications with a focus on 6G and beyond. Its expansive product portfolio encompasses purpose-built RAN, vRAN, Open RAN, AI RAN, cloud-native AI cores, private network solutions, and AI-driven automation tools like CognitiV NOS.
