Tokyo's START Box Exhibition Vol.6 Showcases Emerging Artists' Works

START Box Exhibition Vol.6 in Tokyo



The Arts Council Tokyo, in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, is excited to announce the START Box Exhibition Vol.6, an event dedicated to showcasing the works of young and emerging artists. This initiative aims to provide creative spaces in underutilized areas, such as vacant shops in public housing, and to support the continuous activities of these artists.

Event Overview


Dates:
  • - Phase I: August 18 (Tuesday) - August 23 (Sunday), 2026
  • - Phase II: August 26 (Wednesday) - August 31 (Monday), 2026
Time: Daily from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Location: YAU CENTER Zenigame, 2-6-3 Otemachi, Chiyoda, Tokyo

The exhibition will feature artwork created by 11 artists engaging with the START Box initiative. Visitors can look forward to not just displays, but also public lectures and artist talks facilitated by renowned figures in the art community.

How to Participate:


The exhibition is free to enter and no reservation is required. This encourages a wider audience to engage with contemporary art and the unique perspectives of our featured artists.

Special Events:


Opening Event

You will have the chance to attend opening events on August 18 and August 26, where participating artists will explain their works and engage with attendees from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Public Lecture - "Why Critique Matters: Reassessing Connections"

On August 22 and August 29, renowned art critic Takuma Ishikawa and art historian Takanori Seki will host discussions. The talks begin at YAU STUDIO and will be followed by a guided tour of the exhibition from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

Artist Talks

On August 23 and August 30, artist Ayaka Ura will facilitate discussions among the exhibiting artists. These talks will provide insights into their creative processes and thoughts surrounding their artwork.

About START Box


The START Box initiative is designed to provide young artists with an accessible workspace that can be challenging to secure. It aims to support their ongoing creative endeavors. Since opening its first facility in 2023, START Box has expanded to include various locations across Tokyo, including the recently opened START Box Shirohige, which combines an artist studio with performance space.

About YAU


Urban Art Urbanism (YAU) launched in February 2022 as a pilot program in Tokyo aimed at integrating art into the urban landscape. Since its collaboration with the Tokyo government in October 2022, YAU has worked to promote public engagement with the art-making process, fostering connections within the creative community and aiding innovation.
