Saga Education Welcomes Dr. Christina Grant to Its National Governing Board

In a significant move towards improving educational outcomes, Saga Education, renowned for its high-impact tutoring initiatives, has appointed Dr. Christina Grant to its National Governing Board. As the executive director of the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University, Dr. Grant brings over two decades of extensive experience in education, making her an invaluable addition to the team.

Dr. Grant’s remarkable career in education began in Harlem, where she notably served as a public school teacher before taking on roles with increasing responsibility. Prior to her tenure at Harvard, she held the prestigious position of State Superintendent of Education in the District of Columbia. Here, she was pivotal in overseeing essential operations, including grants, educational standards, assessments, and accountability initiatives for elementary and secondary education.

During her time as superintendent, Dr. Grant spearheaded a monumental $100 million investment aimed at academic recovery programs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. These initiatives are critical, considering the widespread learning disruptions faced by students across the nation.

Alan Safran, CEO and co-founder of Saga Education, expressed confidence in Dr. Grant’s capabilities: "Dr. Grant knows how states can design policies to meet local needs, and she's seen the impact of high-dosage, high-impact tutoring. She oversaw the growth of a citywide high-impact tutoring initiative in Washington, D.C. that proved both effective and sustainable."

Dr. Grant emphasizes the urgency of her new role, stating, "This is an important moment in education, and I’m honored to join Saga’s board to support its mission. Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed how evidence-based practices, such as high-impact tutoring, transform student outcomes. I'm excited to help advance Saga's important work with states and school districts nationwide."

Her impressive background includes roles such as Deputy Executive Director at the New York City Department of Education and a senior official in the School District of Philadelphia. Dr. Grant earned a doctorate in education focused on organizational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, in addition to master's degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University, and Fordham University, along with a bachelor's degree from Hofstra University.
